Rifle is to scary for South Africa?

Just take one rifle, there is no need for 2 that are so close in performance.

It would be different if you were taking a 375 or something for dangerous game, but two rifles for the same animals is different.

It's a bolt gun and not a semi auto. So it shouldn't be a problem. You will find chassis style stock in SA.
Some folks are scared of things that look different. So listen to your PH and the rifle permits guy and go have fun. I would however on take one of the 30 cal.

The only time I took 3 rifles to Africa, and it was South Africa, they were a .308W, .300 Win Mag and a .375HH. The .308W was for my son, the other two rifles were for me. There were no issues having two riles in the .30 cal range.

That said, your file has the AR look even though it's a bolt action and SHOULDN'T be a problem, but TIA. As such, I concur with others to get a picture of the rifle to Henry and let him sort things out with SAPS before you leave.

Probably not a problem to someone who can clearly see it’s a bolt action. But, there are those who probably think it looks like a semi auto.
Me, I don’t think I would hunt with a Chassis rifle because I like traditional looking sporting rifles and would prefer to have a traditional hunting rifle in the photos.
And yeah, the .30-06 will cover anything you might think you are going to take with the .308

You've got to remember: in this day and age of woke liberalism, it's not what a something "does" or "is", but "what it looks like".
.......which, it you think about it for a moment, is basically the same thing as racism........but I'm just over thinking again.

Kevin Brittingham has taken multiple fix rifles to RSA and Mozambique. He has recently said he has exported 80+ fixes there as well. I would have paperwork in order and then not worry about it.

I certainly did not mean to start such a divisive topic, I love the Bavarian stock CZ for my traditional flavor, but have also really come to love the Fix as a do all rifle.

I did take good advice in this thread and reached out to my pH and Henry from rifle permits. Who responded over WhatsApp within minutes of me sending him the random question and he does not believe there will be a problem at all.

I question how much fun you will have carrying that thing around. It looks rather front heavy. Speaking from experience the few times I've stalked muleys with my brother's unbalanced Browning BAR, it ain't very enjoyable! Definitely get a lower capacity magazine if you can. No sense in hauling around that extra weight. My Springfield carries five in the box and one on the chamber. I've only emptied that rifle at game twice since 1964. Both times it was loaded with just five rounds.

I just returned from my first trip. I took 2 Q fixes, in 6.5 and a 12” 8.6 blackout. No issues! In fact riflepermits recognized the guns because KB of Q uses them as well.
Spent a week in Limpopo, then went to the Eastern Cape. While transitioning to a different lodge in the EC we hit a police checkpoint looking for firearms, no issues.

The gun weighs 5.5lbs before optics. Very light.

The Q Fix was meant for Africa.

wow…my only concern is you are counting on people in Africa who may not know the distinctions for this gun versus military. Since you are asking for an opinion there is no way in this world I would take this gun to Africa no matter what anyone tells you. Given my number of safaris you are at the hands of local people in charge…just my POV I would not risk it

Dont the people in africa know what will work and be fine in africa ?
I think if you want to take this gun to africa the best people to ask advice from would be people in africa

On another message board someone seems to think my Fix is scary and I may have problems with SAPS.

This gun is a bolt action on .308. I have seen people take chassis rifles in videos on YouTube so I can’t for see any problems.

Is this to scary or is that person just projecting?

I am taking my CZ600 Lux in .30-06 for the traditional side.

I wasn’t allowed to bring a 300 win mag and 300 WSM in July. I used African Sky for rifle permit but my travel agent called the other 3 companies they used in SA and got the same answer that you can only bring 1 gun of a caliber. Good luck

You will have a problem is you only have 1 person or at least I was told it was a no go in July.

I believe that is only the case if you have two rifles of the same caliber. A .308 Win and a .30-06 are two different calibers and marked as such on the rifles. The SAPS person reading them likely has no idea they use the same diameter projectile. They're truly two different calibers.

When I took my son and those 3 rifles, he was too young to be the one in ownership. So it was essentially the same as me traveling alone.

Technically the 308 and 30-06 are the same caliber or bore diameter of .308.

But they are different cartridges.

You are of course correct, but that's not how the average officer at the SAPS office sees it, or at least that has been my experience.

Disturbing, but good to hear this warning. I get how there can be difficulties with, for example, officials getting confused with a 275 Rigby rifle and accompanying 7x57 ammo. But I didn't know they could have trouble with someone having both a 308 and a 3006, and thinking they're "the same" because they're both "30 calibre."

Sounds like this would normally come from situations where a someone is bringing an extra rifle for a kid. But it could so easily happen.

I'd be interested to know how common this is.
