Red Dot & RMR Sights For Dangerous Game Rifles

The problem of parallax in some reflex sights has been brought up a couple of times in this thread. It seems to be one of those issues best avoided, like “whistling through the graveyard”. I first noticed it on a PH’s DG rifle years ago and it cured me of ever using one or putting one on any of my rifles. I know the principle of consistent cheek weld for some mitigation of the parallax issue but in the real world of shooting under stress, not something I want to have to think about.

Having shot and hunted extensively with Aimpoint Micos I honestly cannot say that I ever had an issue. The bullet falls where I aim if I do my bit.

@BeeMaa do you maybe know: if I mount my Aimpoint Micro on an EAW 19mm dovetail mount for the front dovetail of my CZ550 Magnum, will that mount be compatible with a standard Weaver dovetail on other rifles?

No.

The CZ rail is not the same dimension as a Picatinny or Weaver. The only solution would be to put a Picatinny rail (or piece of a rail) on top of your CZ550, then get the correct mount to go from your AimPoint to the Pic rail.

Doing this would essentially defeat the entire purpose of having a double square bridge for which to mount optics directly on. My advice would be to keep it as simple as possible and the optic as low as possible. Put the optic on the mount, the mount on the action and go hunting.

Having mounts on mounts only introduces possible failure points. Not good on a rifle that will be used in the pursuit of DG where not only your life, but the lives of the entire hunting party could be at stake.

Thanks very much, I appreciate the info
