Great way to give your .470 ED!

Talk about feeling inadequate!

Just got to lie to your 470 and say size doesn’t matter!

Dayum, Tim. I just came across this post. That is a fine broomstick! Congrats.

Well, I've been avoiding the 50 yard benchrest shooting with this rifle...convinced myself I needed some time to get a little accustomed to the new platform.

Today was my third outing with this new rifle...so I put on my big boy pants and put her on the bag.

First up was 105gr of IMR 4831 and the 500g A-Frame. The 106gr loads shot well at 25 last week (virtually converged at 25) and the 106gr velocity was over 2,200...so I thought I'd drop a grain and see what happens at 50.

About this time Cody shows up and shoots some of his 7977 loads. His first two shots are about a half inch apart! So he talks me into shooting a left/right with this newfangled powder:

Ok...so maybe the new stuff is ok!!

It's rough when you have 14 pounds of a powder and all of a sudden it is "obsolete"!

Oh, and the velocity of the 7977 load in my rifle was 2,243 fps! Yikes!

Something is just not right Tim. It's not supposed to be that easy!!!
Nice shootin' (y)

Aren't you supposed to have to actually work up a load for a double? Not just shoot 2 shots and say "that'll work, let's go huntin."

Well when you’re getting great advice from others....it happens. :)

Just remember @tarbe you must sort all sticks of powder first by weight and then by length. Once you have that done then you can actually start making these 470 NE super sniper loads! Lol

Of course this also includes turning the necks too.

You don't want to use up all the accurate shots at the range!

Absolutely. And reaming the primer pockets, and weight-sorting the brass, and checking the bullet runout, and....

;)

Well then....that didn't take long!

Got home from the range, cleaned rifles, went back out and bought 7977.

Now I can finally take a shower!

I know!

And it was the last one in the store!

I wanted to tell the guy I have more powder in my house than he has in his store...but thought better of it!

HI all, here is a Short update on our America trip, I currently in Houston and have 2 more meetings here before movings North toward Oklahoma, Missouri and Iowa, and from there I will head to Colorado and Idaho,I have been met with great hospitality and friendship, and have met several new and old clients and we are going to book the rest of 2025 season quick and have several dates booked for 2026!
That's a wrap, on our first hunt of this years season.

Hunting conditions are a bit tougher in South Africa during the month of February, but can be just as rewarding if done right.
