Powder & Primer Deals Today

Saw Norma has some small pistol primers from Argentina. Does anyone have any experience with these? They seem like a decent price.

Also, does anyone have any experience doing business with Gunnerhouse.com? They have some larger rifle magnum primers for $44/1000 but seems too good to be true.

Thanks

I've not dealt with them, but when I run in to a new (to me) supplier, this is where I usually end up. Might want to read this. It may answer your question. "Too good to be true" is usually just that....

Have you checked Midsouth Shooters Supply in Clarksville, Tennessee for IMR 4064 powder?

They had a verity of powders the last time I was over that way. About 3-4 weeks ago.

I learned something very valuable today…a supplier Southern Munitions had my desired Federal 215 primers for sale yes they are expensive at $179 for 1,000 but I wanted them. I found out from them they were only 21 miles from me so I saved hazmat charges plus shipping to pick them up…never assume was my lesson learned today

Federal large magnum primers are showing up even though very expensive when you add shipping and Hazmat

Probably a silly question, but is it interchangeable to use "regular" large rifle and magnum large rifle in non-magnum cartridges? Let's say a 25-06 or 308 as examples.

I know it changes your load development some that you can't freely interchange them for the same result.

Physically LR primers and LRM primers should be the same height and diameter.

One may likely develop more pressure and possible more velocity if magnum primers are used instead of "regular" primers.

As a data point, I replaced Federal 215M LRM primers with Remington 9 1/2M LRM primers in a 458 Win with 470 Cutting Edge Raptor bullets. There was a 25 fps velocity increase using the 9 1/2M primers. There was probably a pressure increase using the Remington primers.

Any change to loading may raise or lower pressure. That's why all the loading manuals recommend starting with 10% less than maximum power charge and working (slowly) up loads toward maximum.

Be safe!

Thanks. That's what I thought was the answer but appreciate getting a confirmation

Short answer is maybe. As Mark mentioned above you need to back off some and work up - Anytime you change any component. (Even going to a different brand of brass.)

FWIW, I substituted standard Federal 210s for magnum F215 primers in a 9.3x62 load - ang got slightly higher velocity and lower ES with the standard primers. Sample of one, so pretty meaningless of course.

Nugget here. A guide gave me the nickname as I looked similar to Nugent at the time. Hunting for over 50 years yet I am new to hunting in another country and its inherent game species. I plan to do archery. I have not yet ruled out the long iron as a tag-along for a stalk. I am still deciding on a short list of game. Not a marksman but better than average with powder and string.
