Politics

A convicted felon sends the National Guard and soldiers to California, uses them against compatriots. Welcome to the USA of the year 2025.

I find it ironic that a South African, who hasn't had a reasonable leader in power since 1999 (if you consider Mandela to have been a reasonable leader), whose government has actively passed legislation that has clearly decimated its own economy and infringed on the civil rights of its population, where corruption is so bad that leaders are judged on how much or little they steal (because its assumed that all of them steal), has destroyed its military, and turned its police agencies into a laughing stock (when just 25 years ago SAPS were genuinely a professional organization), where violent crime continues to increase, quality of public education continues to decrease, and +/- 27,000 people (out of 63M) emigrate to Europe, the US, and Austrailia each year due to the declination of quality of life in the country...

Concerns himself so much with whats wrong in the US...

So what if Trump is a felon? Do you really believe Zuma or Ramanposa are better? and so what if the National Guard has been sent to quell a riot? I seem to recall about 325 South Africans being murdered during the July 2021 riots in South Africa, and the South African police and military being pretty much helpless in doing anything to control it.. instead armed private citizens took to the streets to defend their families and homes.. do you think that's a better solution?

and oh, by the way, mobilizing the national guard is exactly how US presidents (felons or not) have put down riots in this country quite literally since the 1960's... and this is also not the first time federal troops (specifically Marines) have been used to stop violent protests in Los Angeles specifically (Marines were sent into LA in 1992 during the Rodney King riots)... so what exactly is the convicted felon president doing that hasn't been done by MANY presidents in the US for the better part of the last 65 years?

The US has problems, no doubt about it..

South Africa on the other hand is certainly not a country any developed country on the planet asipres to be..

What are you doing to fix your own country? Or are you just bitching about someone else's out of boredom?

And that’s why many Americans balk when we are told that Germany also has free speech.

He should be allowed to say whatever he wants, so long as he isn’t credibly threatening someone, without the fear of his government punishing him for it.
Basically the same rules as is the case for the liberals.

tweet shared by Elon... NSFW language... but the guy is 100% spot on...

the riots in LA are the best free campaign ad gift the Democrats have given the Republicans in a very, very long time..

keep on burning down your own back yard... you're just creating more red vote conversions in other states while making life in your home state more difficult in the future..

I don’t think any liberals have been punished for wishing death on someone. Not by the government at least.

I recall a lot of celebrities publicly fantasizing about violence towards trump but not exactly threatening it. There has been some financial consequences but that’s public opinion not the government.

It’s a little different with things like foreign students or university funding. Student visas have certain limits and if a university takes federal dollars, they open themselves up the carrot and stick influence regardless of who is in control. If someone wants to wish death to Israel in particular or Jews in general, they are allowed to. That doesn’t prevent them from facing non-criminal consequences.

However, I don’t think any liberals have been imprisoned for speech.

I am here for the popcorn! Seriously, what is to debate here? Someone breaks into your house, you'll kick him out or call the cops, right? What makes you accept it when someone breaks into your country? Politics would play a part, but I think SEP (somebody else's problem) syndrome also plays a part. My state in India borders Bangladesh, recent increase in Hindu population is ~10% and Muslim ~30% and all thanks to illegals who are grabbing land all over the place. I am all for kicking out all illegals, anywhere. I decided not to settle in US, but younger daughter holds US citizenship, so I do have a vested interest in this. We have retained her US passport to give her a choice when she grows up, but if this shit continues, I'll try to convince her to stay back in India when she reaches adulthood. In my country, I vote for Trump's pal Modi. Some Indians still celebrate when Pakistan beats India in cricket, but at least there is no place in Mumbai or Delhi where I would feel unsafe walking around today.

The issue is that LAPD should handle this.. Trump use this to fight Newcom politically by overriding his decisions and deploy NG and Marines. Troops on the street may be pouring gas on the situation..

This is Trump theatre..political theatre..calling him Newscum etc.

But it seems rather futile to point this out to you people..who think its ok to shoot at protesters with live ammunition and spray them with gasoline and ignite them..

I fully agree that burning the flag of the country you want to live in and wave the flag of the country you dont want to live i (Mexico) is insane.. But you cant shoot or burn them to death..

I know what I would respond here with...but

Can we shoot or burn them a teensy-weensy bit? Thump them a bit, put them in jail and throw them out? Sorry @Pondoro, could not resist it. Agree with you that killing and maiming is too much, but a good few thumps, arrest and a ticket back home does seem per for the course for the mostly peaceful protesters. Anyone who gets violent, should get the same treatment back, an eye for an eye and all that rot?

I don’t know if the link will work so I also snapped a screenshot. This came along in my FB feed.

Some of Trump’s supposed “compatriots,” to borrow an above poster’s phrase, “peacefully protesting” against a news van. You can’t see it in this frame but in the full clip you can see that the van is completely surrounded by people in black hoodies and masks, some wearing various South American flags as capes, screaming and attacking the van.

Again, I suspect this is not what the framers intended when peaceful assembly was included in the Bill of Rights.

Holding a sign and protesting is one thing.

Assaulting Police Officers with a deadly weapon is a FELONY.

Kindly extract your cranium from your rectum, and differentiate between the two.

I wish I could the the quote system to post. @Munnik. Not exactly a final conviction. It’s on appeal, which IMO Trump will be successful in getting a reversal.

You want to have the protesters shot..dont you..?

Your statement is a perfect example of your lack of awareness and ignorance on so many levels....

Trump's actions in specific response to civil unrest is NOT political theater. He has demonstrated many times that this sort of bullshit will no longer be tolerated in the USA. Enforcing the rule of law is one of the main issues he ran on that got him re-elected...If this is new to you, you simply have not been paying attention to Trump for the last decade...

As far as I am aware the only "theater" is suggesting that anyone has been shot or set on fire by law enforcement... Setting rioters on fire is an asinine assertion. However, shooting criminals who are committing acts that could result in serious injury death is perfectly appropriate... That won't happen although it should because that would be a definitive one that would end the rioting in about 2 seconds...

I think the issue is that you consider these people protesters. Many of us see them, based on their actions, as violent terrorists.

Anyway, LAPD answers to the city council and mayor of LA and they have not controlled the situation. Trump is absolutely correct in intervening when both the municipal and state governments have failed to act. Unchecked violence and rioting in a major US city is intolerable. If Trump also wants to make political hay from the situation, so be it, but this cannot be allowed to continue as it is.

So if this unrest is spreading to other major cities over the US..should the army be deployed full scale or should the police handle it..?
