Serious question - no animus or negativity. I seriously want to know. @Brent in Az ... how does Trump commiserating with Putin help America's international interests? Why does he keep moving the goal line with tariffs and heavier sanctions with Russia? Setting aside your disdain for Ukraine and Zelensky, how do explain his repeated efforts to buddy up to Putin?

So I will start this by saying I think the attack by Ukraine is brilliant and also scary because of what could happen here but I will take a shot at this.

I dont think there is anything to gain either way. I'm not sure what an appropriate response would be. As it is, Trump goes oh didn't know, we didn't know, this is terrible, I want peace, etc. It doesn't really change anything.

It does make it harder for Putin to blame NATO and America, maybe it keeps dialog open, I dont know. Maybe he is giving lip service while Ukraine continues to do what they do. Nothing much has changed in the day to day operations though you could make the argument Europe and America benefitted significantly from Russia losing 40 strategic planes.

I guess my question is what does he gain, and how is it in America's interest for Trump to give some tough guy talk or ramp up sanctions now? Does any of that help Ukraine? How does that align in our strategic interests. We are witnessing a generation of Russians disappearing, their military getting weaker by the day, and gaining valuable insight for how future wars will be fought. I could make the argument everything is going according to plan.

I guess the Russian propagandists understand Trump better than we do - or at least should - by this point. Sweet of him to commiserate with the little KGB thug about the damage to his strategic forces. And Russia's "docked planes" !!? Perhaps one of you with such uncanny insight into his mind and what he really means when he says nonsense can help me understand what he thought he was saying. Perhaps it was grossly unfair of those evil Ukrainians to destroy them on the ground?

It will be curious to see what the Russian response will be. I suspect they are frantically trying to prepare as many ballistic and cruise missiles as they can for a strike. One way of escalation would be to attack the governmental buildings in Kyiv. Another would be medium range ballistic missiles against the logistics hubs just inside Ukraine at the Polish border. Though, it is my belief they are heavily defensed with Patriot systems. Considering what they have thrown at Ukraine for four years, short of nuclear war and national suicide, their options are fairly limited

I wish I had confidence that our President both understands and is acting in our national interests rather than Putin's.

This is actually true, however, it's not the full story.

April 2025 was 46% improved over March 2025, however, that puts us back to where we were before Trump got in (more or less).

The trade deficit has jumped massively since December as businesses ordered inventory to try and avoid tariffs.

Now the tariffs are in effect, levels are pretty much back to 'normal' 2024 levels, maybe very slightly lower, but well within the normal range for the last 5 years or so..

Scenario 5 - the military industrial complex and globalists are delighted to see Russians and Ukrainians dying so neither country is a threat to their economic takeover. What an amazing President you have.. This begs the question..will America just walk away if no peace is reached in Ukraine (wich at this point is highly unlikely) and leave the problem to Europe..?

I have no confidence in Trump..he will walk away..

This is not only California though, Parkland hospital in Dallas Texas is one of the busiest birthing centers in the nation and 50% of the children born there are to illegal parents.
