I'm equally bothered as to why this journalist didn't make it known to the group that he was included obviously in error at the start.
I can't count the times I've been added to the wrong email chain and I find my name which is already a bit rarer, but I always make it known to the sender to remove me immediately.

I can only assume he knew it would be a news worthy bite and stayed on only furthering the already egregious security breach and sharing this classified information action to others.

He asked to be removed which sent a message to the group creator. I don’t like the ATLANTIC but it isn’t his fault he was included. Don’t blame shift.

He asked to be removed after receiving the messages, reading them, screen shotting or copying them, discussing the issue with colleagues, and then made it known?

Very poor on his part as well as the entire team. Both parties failed at being due diligent with national interests at stake. Both are in the wrong. The administration for doing so, and the journalist for their actions after. No pleading ignorance from either side here.

Concerning the leakage of classified plans to the Atlantic magazine, this is the link to the Atlantic article;

All I can think is What the Fxxx (WFT)? Who is in charge of their security?

Here is a link to a Wikipedia article on the Signal network leak;

Finally, here is a link to what the heck the encrypted Signal Messaging application is;

I know there was guidance sent out a few years ago during COVID times that all work related texts were to be sent via Signal and not through standard messaging apps.

So the fact Signal was used doesn't surprise me, though I am not sure why anyone would share what they did via text.

Also a message should have popped up that he was added to the group, unless it was a new group and he has been there for a while. Either way someone has some explaining to do.

Playing the devil's advocate, isn't it the journalist's job to gather information? He is not the one that is a government employee that is in charge of security. I don't see him as the guilty party.

In regard to national interest, if his editor and in house counsel says publish it, I don't see any reason not to publish it.

The stink definitely isn’t on the journalist…

The only question I have is whether this was an intentional act (clearly a stupid one… whatever positive purpose intended has clearly backfired)… or it was an accidental act (also clearly stupid.. since there are far better tools at the disposal of all govt players involved for accomplishing their intended task)…

I think that's the measure of the man one chooses to be. Some would say, "post it", "Freedom of the press". Others would simply acknowledge the mistake (if truly a mistake and not nefarious in nature) and understand its magnitude and not propel it further.

No shortage of 'Gotcha' journalism from either side that simply doesn't help national interests or security.

Wouldn’t the good will of quietly dealing with it instead of publishing it out weigh the value of a gotcha article ? Seems to me it’s never a bad thing to do right by those who make the decisions. A little good will could of gone a long way towards future articles with real substance.

Oh there you go with logic and integrity!

I totally agree with you. If I were
somehow included in this communique, I’d like to think that I would notify the sender and delete it, not put it out to the highest bidder.

I don't disagree with that at all.

I can only speak for myself and if I were ever introduced into a situation where more is at stake than my self Interests, upto and including national security issues, I would have opt for a different position than what was taken.

A collective good is achievable if proper positions are taken. That requires truly looking back at ones own deficiencies first and making that change.

As I've posted here before, I work in global supply. There is no doubt in my mind that most business owners and decision makers whom I work with globally simply want to continue to do business wherever they can. This is a collective good and we will get there. Rhetoric in between is a means to an end and more introductions of pejorative narratives from either side slow it down and cause more harm than good.

Carrots vs stick you can have someone in a position of power for the next four years look fondly upon your or the same person in power who now holds a grudge. To me it’s a no brainer you may not of made anything by not publishing the article but it certainly doesn’t cost you anything either and you can’t buy that kind of good will.

Exactly!
I'd rather someone owes me a favor than money!

Riddle me this Batman...

How is it that the press may make public known classified information but Snowden and Assange are wanted criminals?

I fully support our First amendment rights but there should be a limit.

The guy at the Atlantic is a well established Trump Administrator hater… he’s feigning like he’s been a do gooder in this affair… he is not.. there’s no way he wasn’t going to purposefully take advantage of this opportunity when it fell like mana from heaven into his lap…

Which leads me back to my original question/thoughts…

Of all the journalists that cover the White House… one that is extremely well known and established for being a major left wing supporter is who gets put on the distro list? By accident?

There is more to this story than someone innocently making a fat finger mistake…

No one in a senior position in the Trump administration would be talking to this guy in any capacity at all, unless there was a very specific reason for it..

The intelligence committee questions and answers put to heads of intelligence agencies. I read between the lines that they were saying I don’t know you better ask the secretary of defense. Hegseth has already declassified the info. So in my opinion, it sounded like they were blaming Hegseth.

Still a wasted opportunity if that’s the case , documenting everything and sitting on it until the next election would of been the smart play.

The right wing press seems to be speculating that Waltz is at fault and that his head might roll soon over it..

I think Waltz let the reporter in to the
Chat, but Hegseth was the one adding all the questionable information
