What to carry in Namibia?

One hunter is not allowed to bring two rifles in the same cartridge for hunting.

Smart. Travel light with the one that gets it done...375H&H! Best of luck on your hunt.
Thanks. I wasn’t aware if Namibia had that regulation but even if not perhaps if traveling through SA would cause that to be an issue?

M70,...but you should probably upgrade the scope, which will require a new ringset,....I would go through the trouble and do it.

A follow up shot in a timely manner might be worth your life when going after DG. So, take the bolt especially when using a rat caliber. ;)

Winchester, comfort to have extra rounds. But either is a great choice.
Scope 1-5 or 2-10 illuminated is better, it’s amazing how black the buffalo appear through a scope.
Best of luck, please take notes and lots of pictures for your report.

Can't take both to Africa...same caliber duplication is prohibited in many areas and certainly in Joburg where you will enter Africa before going to Namibia. The bolt gun is more practical of course but don't let that sway you from the #1 if you really want to take it. Nothing wrong with a single shot on DG with backup. I wouldn't personally do it on lion or ele but you only get 1 shot on a leopard...buff are no problem with single shot...PG no problem. I took my Dakota 10 on a leopard hunt and shot a lot of bait and PG with it. It was a lot of fun and so easy to carry in the bush. They also look fantastic in photos. Take the one you shoot the best and enjoy your first hunt there!

Pretty much everyone has advised on the better rifle to take, so I’ll just comment on the scopes. You’ve got too much power for a dangerous game scope. 1-5 or 2-10 would be dramatically better. And above all else, an illuminated dot reticle like Leupold’s FireDot is best of all.

I'm a big fan of the Model 70 CFR rifles for sure. Just finished up a double cow cull hunt with my Model 70 in 375h&h. I also like the performance of the Barnes Vor-TX 300gn.

Hi URF,

The M70, clearly. I have one like yours. 4 rounds in the magazine plus one in the chamber.
These pre 64 M70 H&H 300 and 375, at least mine and two others I know, feed-extract-and eject like few others bolt actions do...
About scope...as you have them, I would go with the two Leupold, 1-5 AND 2-10, already sighted with rings.

Good luck!

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
