What I mean is in a number of states the state is actually the retailer.

County option in Texas applies to days an hours of sale by private businesses.

Yes, like Canada, it’s state by state (vs province by province).

Brent, some of what you write is simply not right.
One should not interfere in the internal politics of another country, I agree.
Apart from the fact that in the end we in AH are constantly dealing with African affairs, aren't we?
But let me tell you, when the most powerful man in the free world sets policy, the world notices much faster than you in your desert in Arizona.
Besides, it's called the www. world wide net. and so everyone is invited to express their opinion and if you don't like it, why don't you open your own homepage?
After all, nobody criticizes you even though this is a forum about Africa hunting and you have contributed absolutely nothing about Africa, but you still seem to feel very comfortable here.

Here's a picture from the London Underground. It's actually from there. No joke.
I'm not sure the US economy is so happy when the other free world starts boycotting American goods because others are spitting at their feet. No need for tariffs at all.
See picture.

I am sure Brent from AZ is an alright guy. As with Brent and many americans have their eyes shut towards the many domnistic problems america have. But on the other hand Brent is right. We should poke our own cattle.
I sincrely hope Trump will do it better to be an american in America. I have expressed Trump do have some valid points. However many americans struggle. Nasdaq reported some 530000 filed bankrupcy due to medical bills and why should I care?. I only care if Trump feel america is sidetracked and blaming us!. The american healtcare business are greedy. Start adressing this to start with. The american society doesn`t work for many and they are left out.

Here's a fun fact from Meta ai....."yes, Canada imposes tariffs on US products......dairy products are one example. Tariffs range from 201.5% to 313.5%. These tariffs are part of Canada's supply-management system"........bet you didn't hear that in the main stream propaganda effluvia........FWB

I’ve addressed this before in a previous post. Dairy is only tariffed after a certain quota is met.

Canadian dairy farmers are on a quota system. 1kg of milk quota currently costs 24000$ here in Canada which is enough to milk one cow per day. The quota is in place to both keep the price high enough to provide the farmer with a decent price for his milk while also keeping the price low enough for the consumer to buy. There is no way that Canadian dairy farmers could compete with their American counterparts on the open market. American dairy farmers can expand at will. Where as Canadian for every cow requires a 24000 dollar expenditure plus the price of the cow. And that is if there is quota available at all for forsale through the dairy board.

Yes, I am aware. I don't think any state should be involved in the sale of alcohol. I'd go as far as saying ATF should be a convenience store, and not a government agency, but that's not the point.

For example, in the States that control sales, a shelf full of Bud Light while all the other shelves were empty carried a much stronger message than not carrying the product at all. The State not choosing to provide sends a much different (and stronger) message than customers choosing not to purchase.

the message being sent is defiance at the federal and provincial level against a foreign power. The idea being for sales to be hurt enough to have the governors of effected states Kentucky for example to complain to trump. This is not a case of the consumer showing their displeasure with their purchasing power it’s a battle at the state/provincial and federal level.

Here’s another fun fact for you by capita the use runs a major trade deficit with Canada. A country with 40million people comes within 60billion of spending with a country with 300million more people.

8750$ imported per Canadian
1215$ imported per American

But you probably don’t see that on Main stream media either.

You e just got to stop using facts and logic. It’s unfair!

I could try stuttering talking over myself and constantly repeating myself while stretching the truth further with each retelling if it would make people more comfortable. I draw the line at spray tan there are things I will not do for my country.

To expand on the dairy issue U.S. dairy farms are also subsidized to the tune of 15-19 billion dollars annually. 73% of returns on U.S. dairy are government funded.

Why don't you mention that the US also has a tariff structure in place on Canadian dairy above the zero-tariff quota?

And that our high tariff rates above the zero-tariff quota are designed to protect our fledgling dairy industry (Wisconsin alone has like twice as many dairy cows as the entire country) from dumping, as the US provides agricultural and livestock subsidies to their domestic dairy production to the tune of several billion dollars a year and encourages an industry where literal millions of gallons of milk are dumped every week.

Canada is still the second largest export destination for US dairy, more than a billion worth in 2024.

Many things seem to be missing from the conversation.

See also: Vast differences in the regulatory market.
A significant portion of US dairy wouldn't even be eligible for sale in Canada, as there are different rules on everything from anti biotics to additives, to labeling. Most US 'ice cream' couldn't (and isn't, where it is brought in, unless it is higher end) be called that in Canada. Ice cream needs to be made from cream here, which is why you see US brands frequently listed as "frozen dessert", it is primarily vegetable oil.

Oh crap, there you go, more facts, this conversation is spiraling out of control!

Because he either neglected to educate himself on the issue before posting or it didn’t fit the rhetoric he was attempting to convey.

Would love to see all the subsidies vanish....we farm citrus, no subsidies whatsoever, just crop insurance and pray for rain and no freezes....and of course high taxes and production costs. We have way too much gooberment involved in ag, with too much control.

On virtually all issues, north or south of the border, left or right, international or domestic, belief in and defending a narrative, too often unwittingly, constitute debate.

That whole critical thinking concept isn't really necessary with so many fellow travelers a click away.

I never much cared for federal meat inspectors that raised a bunny once in 4h and took a business degree ag collage or lumber inspectors telling me 3 1/2 x 1 1/2 is better lumber than I can mill myself at 2x4 because it’s got a stamp on it. But the world is what it is.

What do I know about lumber I’m only typing this reply sitting on the butt of a log watching a brush pile burn.

What is the 24,000 per head number? I have zero dairy experience, but plenty with cattle, I but can't figure out what you are talking about. I would guess 200 head is an average size, so that there is some added cost of 4,800,000, for what?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
