The best leverage we have against this is not tariffs.

It’s the Ukraine and Russia peace deal. A deal will be struck.

Then Putin will immediately use that time to rebuild and get ready for the next offensive. Everyone knows he will eventually break the peace. Or provoke a response that requires Ukraine to break the peace deal.

So, while Russia rebuilds. Ukraine will also need to re arm and staff. So they will need huge investments from Europe and the US.

Our leverage will be the Ukraine bulwark against the next Russia provocation.

and to tell Europe if they do not back the US dollar. Then they can fend off Russia in Poland or wherever the next probe is.

If Europe moves away from the dollar that will just quicken China currency gaining on the dollar.

There are incredibly stupid people everywhere... the military and government doesn't have a monopoly.. I'd argue that both have a larger percentage of half way intelligent people than many industries.. they both at least test for intelligence to one degree or another depending on the job applied for..

Been to a shopping mall lately? or bought a coffee? or talked to people in your local bank branch? We even get truly stupid people to stop in on AH on occasion..

Ive interfaced with stupid people at of those places just this week... and its only Thursday.. Im sure I'll add more to the pile before the weekend is over..

I could be wrong, but:

1. I was taught that Social Security was created by the government as a result of the Great Depression and due to Americans inability to properly save money for their retirement years. Let alone for unforseen medical, natural, etc. disasters.

2. Low wage earners working 2 and 3 jobs trying to support a family often don't know how or have the opportunity to invest their money due to what little money they do earn is in their opinion better spent on life's, thier family's, necessities.

If they let you decide where your social security would be invested most would totally mess that up and just crea more welfare.

Most likely true, I believe that it would have to be set up like a 401K instead of just turning that 6% over to the employee. The employer has financial people come in and have the employees come in and give them options they can pick or pick one for them.

One aspect of Social Security that most people don't take into account is "Survivor benefits" or what use to be referred to as "Widow and orphans benefits." It's sort of like an insurance policy to give a surviving spouse and children some income. Then of course, there's the major windfall of the one time death benefit, $255!

Interesting discussion on the Potomac crash with Senator Duckworth who was a Blackhawk pilot and severely wounded in Iraq in 2004 when her UH 60 was hit by an RPG. She lost one leg at the hip and the other below the knee. Unlike many, to include the president, who seem to have already determined what happened, she at least has relevant experience upon which to draw.

I am going to say something unpopular with the budget hawks, but our total foreign aid bill last year was $70.2 billion dollars. In country with a 6 trillion dollar budget, that is barely roundoff money. Putting a hold on it does nothing to curb real expenditures or grow investment in Detroit or anywhere else. This sudden suspension is pure political theater to appeal to the base

A media news story this morning stated that the ATC tower is normally staffed with 30 people. There were only 19 on duty because of a shortage of qualified people.
The news report also stated that 1000 applicants for ATC jobs were declined simply based on race.
The reports also stated that the helicopter was not on the approved flight path?

There is little that Sen Duckworth ever says that I agree with or take much note of..

This however is one of the exceptions.. everything stated in that article is spot on, at least according to the FAA, ATC, and military aviators Ive been chatting with over the last 24 hours..

The time to finger point or state cause isn't a few hours after a crash... there will be plenty of time to do that after the investigation is well underway and facts become more clear..

The first 24 hours should be nothing more than condolences for the friends and family members of the fallen, and a commitment to investigate thoroughly and then let the American people know the cause, and what the path moving forward will be to prevent such things for happening again once the facts are known and the investigation is complete..

What the American people want (demand) right now is more honesty and transparency in government.. the government is about the only thing people trust less than the media at this point.. when a politician opens their mouth, no matter what side of the aisle they sit on, Americans automatically assume what they are saying is at a minimum partial truth and partial lie.. and when some speak the assumption is what they are saying is a complete and total lie..

Misstatements, even if said with the intent of truthfulness and honesty will only serve to prove you are a "liar" by the other side once evidence is there that what was said was incorrect...

The transparency on this latest crash has been a nice change. But Trump needs to let his people do their jobs. And quit commenting on it every tens minutes with political BS or without all the facts in.

We all get it. The government is full of DEI hires. You don’t need to keep pounding us over the head with it in every conversation.
