Instead of building reservoirs CA built storm drains and sent all that water right into the ocean and then cry when things burn. Real brilliant, people.

City of Long Beach is in the process of building a water treatment plant for the storm drains. We'll pump the water to the treatment plant first.

Since there is so much money in California, maybe they should consider desalination plants? Pump that water to the reservoirs, and create a surplus

Actually, decades ago a desalination plant was built at Santa Barbara, we were involved on the controls side of it. The city promptly mothballed it. Then in 2017 they modernized and reactivated it due to droughts. Today it provides about 30% of the city water supply. The city was lucky in that they kept the permit active as it would be an impossible task in the current environmental regulations to build it from scratch.

Watching the news and they are interesting several CA govt officials and it is sickening how the finger pointing has begun in earnest.
California residents need to wipe the slate and get rid of all of them.
Unfortunately I doubt that will happen.

All the taxes generated in California doesn't alleviate the fact that far left policies created the inability to have an adequate water supply.
Now the taxes of the many, have to pay for the incompetence of an elected few

There is quite alot of H 2 0 , maybe more than Ca. even needs, in the Pacific ocean. how far was Malibu from the pacific ? 200yds. QUITE easily accessible if you dont mind driving over the beach, and killing sand fleas.
EASILY clean your pumpers out by running fresh water through them for 10 min. why I bet TANKS COULD set up with the necessary equipment every mile or two., They could catch excess run off used on fire in small street ponds and haul it back down to the pacific ocean and would be a win, win for the fishies of the deep blue sea.
Might be hard on the lawns and shrubs but theres always a trade off to live in Malibu or Palisades.
Hire D E I and get some white male heterosexual fire fighters to equal out to the population.

The problem was not just the water supply per se. It was a multitude of things. First, there was no clearing of brush etc. as Feds found a mouse that was being impacted so they forbid clearing it. Second a local reservoir was empty due to repairs on its cover (idiotic, why do it during fire season). Third billions of gallons of water were available at other reservoirs but LADWP for years have neglected upgrading pump stations for specifically for this type of event.

One of my electrical subs sent all their people to LA to hook up temporary generators to pump stations as they were lacking even that capability. We have a contract with another municipality to put in place the capability to hook up temporary generators for storm stations as they realized in recent years Edison is unreliable.

But you are right overall, LA officials had other priorities.

Your comment about how America has treated the "indigenous" people (meaning the American Indian) was obviously meant as a slight inferring what you see as America's unique penchant for cruelty or brutality which is utter nonsense...

My point, and I believe Scott's point was that America is often framed as some sort of brutal conqueror by those who have a very narrow or naive understanding of world history... America settled no differently than any other country on the planet... Every single country and culture in existence today was created as a result of war and brutality.... Yes, wars have consequences and human beings suffer cruel and brutal hardships in the process... This is a world-wide reality of all men past and present, and not one unique to America... The responsibility is one of human nature, not one of citizenship...

America haters are always trying to historically portray America as the only civilization that ever waged war on another country... They do the same thing with the concept of slavery suggesting that it's an American-born concept neglecting to mention that it has existed since the dawn of man and practiced by nearly every race and culture for thousands of years long before America was even a settlement...

The Mighty Mouse is All powerful, I don’t know how many projects the Alabama beach mouse has stalled here on the coast. There are some hoops to get around them but they are expensive.

You are correct, the Portuguese imported the vast majority of Africans to the new world to Brazil.

The information is probably out there somewhere but I would guess that the majority of slaves in the states were born here to Africans brought over and then had kids and so on. But that is only a guess on my part.

Not Trump specifically but Federal government for disaster relief, which is one of the jobs of the Feds that both the left and right agree on. Also, Biden already announced relief.

And I’d submit that those impacted in CA paid heck a lot more in taxes than those that were impacted by the hurricanes on the East coast recently. CA as the highest tax paying State does subsidize a lot of the red states. I’d think tech bros of CA might pay heck a lot more in taxes than the hillbillies of TN.

Also a lot of the moronic policies are implemented by the forest service as well which is a Federal entity. Not to say locals weren’t moronic over the years either.

By shear numbers the Californians do pay for a lot of other states but the federal tax rates are the same for everyone in each bracket or am I missing something?

Not all wildfires can be prevented but the severity can be lessened by good forestry practices as stated. You can almost predict areas that will be hit with a fire by just looking at them. As for us rednecks and hillbillies we pay what the government demands and expect a good return for our dollar.

It would probably be hard to nail down exact numbers on how many were born versus brought in on ships, but the importation of slaves was banned in the US in 1808. Another important point that I think is overlooked is that we weren't actually The United States of America until either 1776 or 1783 (depending on when you want to consider the colonies as independent). Either way, slavery only existed in "The United States of America" for less than a century, which when compared to all other nations and civilizations in history isn't that long. Slavery also didn't exist in all US States by the start of the Civil War.

If memory serves correctly, in the 70's parts of CA had partially built a desal plant, decided to stop the work and sold all of the equipment to Saudi Arabia, not 100 per cent sure on customer. Great move , huh? Someone needs to look this up, thanks.
