I realize this is late but I’m curious (was watching the coronation earlier and learned of the following) what British and British Commonwealth AH members think of Gabon and Togo joining the Commonwealth last year(?) as they were never British possessions?

Didn't realize Lord Horatio Nelson was going to make the coronation.

I listened to a little of the ag’s testimony about shielding the Brandons from investigation…. you know, one of those right wing, MAGA conspiracy, Russian disinformation investigation things that also involves the current sctry of da state… For the first time I heard a little quiver in the lying b&$!:/ds voice. Maybe just maybe… fingers crossed!

I have spent a LOT of time in Togo and this makes no sense to me. Togo is as French as you can get. Language, religion, form of government, you name it, nothing fits with the commonwealth.

That was my impression. I believe it was German before WWI like Cameroon but has been a Francophone country for forever. I don’t really see it as a net positive for the UK. I’m sure it’s great for Togo (and Gabon) in theory at least. Geopolitically speaking it’s better than China being in the role of the UK there. Wouldn’t be surprised if they’re influential there regardless (not a fact based opinion on my part, just an observation based on the trend on that continent).

Personally, if I were a Brit or a Commonwealth citizen from an actual Anglophone country I wouldn’t care for it one bit. But then I care an awful lot about history, heritage, identity (not in the woke sense), culture and national pride and the preservation of those things.

My firm has been doing work in Togo for the last 5 years… I completely agree… it’s as French as you can find anywhere outside of France… there is nothing Brit about it in any way…

I believe it has morphed into an association of countries that adhere to foundational concepts of democracy, equality, and the rule of law. Oh, and Rwanda.

But, seriously, I would like to see an evolution in trade with countries that are not authoritarian dictatorships that want to kill me. That sounds like a reasonable improvement, and I wonder if Commonwealth is a way to achieve this.

I got this from the US State Dept in my email this morning.

Special Representative for Racial Equity and Justice Cormier Smith’s Travel to Johannesburg, Pretoria, and Durban

05/08/2023 08:11 AM EDT

Office of the Spokesperson

Special Representative Desirée Cormier Smith will travel to South Africa from May 9-13 to engage government and civil society representatives and seek opportunities for partnership going forward. This is her first visit to the region in this role.

While in South Africa, Special Representative Cormier Smith will discuss shared challenges related to racial inequities and opportunities for collaboration with government official and civil society interlocutors to globally combat structural racism, discrimination, and xenophobia.

To learn more about Special Representative Cormier Smith’s mandate and work, follow @US_SRREJ on Twitter.

I didn't realize that the State Department needed a Special Representative for Racial Equity and Justice. I checked out Ms. Smith and found she came from George Soros' Open Society Institute. My guess is she is paid in the neighborhood of $150K a year of taxpayers' money as this is an ambassador level position.

I'm sure the Chinese with their Silk Road Initiative in Africa are laughing their asses off.

Racial inequities they say? I suppose she’ll represent the minority whites and present their very real grievances against the majority government. Land appropriation. Employment discrimination. Banning the highly racist anthem, Kill the Boer…..and the rest.

I think we unfortunately know the answer to that one.

This is going to be an interesting case.
The legality of the Chevron Doctrine….

This would gut the USFWS and EPA. We can only hope!

Are China and Russia Bad for Africa? That’s the Wrong Question.

Westerners should ask instead what kind of partnerships their own countries offer to the continent.

Ike didn't attend Queen Elizabeth's coronation, but he did send a delegation, Biden sent his wife. I suppose since she has an Ed that she can speak a coherent sentence and probably won't look for dead people or attempt to shake hands with non-existent people.
Probably won't fart in front of the new Queen, either.

This just in! New York jury finds Donald Trump sexually abused Jean Carroll in civil suit!

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
