1960's Dad had us kids go up the street to the auto garage to buy cigarettes out of the vending machine for 30 and 35 cents depending on brand and length. I'm sure they were cheaper by the carton. No age restrictions then.
Maybe those prices were before they added stuff to make them more addictive. :)
A bar by me has a cigarette machine still, I bought a pack one day just to say I used one, this was almost 15 years ago.I don't smoke lol.

Some might say that about a telephone booth.
Clark Kent better be faster than a speeding bullet to locate a pay phone booth and still get there in time as Superman to save the world. :)

I recall in the early '80s the national debt reached $1Trillion and several commentators were predicting the end of the world as we knew it- of course the prime interest rate was close to 20% so just paying debt maintenance amounted to $200Billion per year and in those days that was some real money. And now, look at it, Gasp.

You could make the argument that we are kicking the can since then, and one day the house of cards collapses, and everything the fed does until then just stalls the inevitable.

We’ll be all fine and dandy until the day we issue a bond offering and no one buys them. That day will come right around the time we can’t service the debt anymore. At the present time there’s not a safer investment than US Government Bonds. But there’s no reason that will always be the case. It’s funny how people (and governments) want to balance risk and return.

People may have seen the situation in Sri Lanka where the people stormed the residences of the President and the PM. One of the key causes was the the insane policy to ban the import of fertilizers thus causing the agricultural sector to fail and go from a net exporter to a desperate importer of food basics. The economy collapsed, the currency became worthless. The President and PM have been forced to resigned but there is go guarantee that its not too late too restore the situation.

In Holland the Dutch Government have tried the same bright idea. Dutch farmers protesting in force but will probably have similar outcomes for the Dutch food production and economy.

Is anyone surprised the Trudeau is so divorced from reality that he thinks this is a good idea?

My good General,

I am usually in complete agreement with you.

Yes, a fleet of BMP-3s with their 30mm r 57mm autocannons and 7.62 PKTs, and a few ATGMs is a scary foe. Closing with, and destroying one's enemy would be the easy step. Occupying those not destroyed is the hard part.

A rifle behind every blade of grass. In Alaska, there are a lot of big, accurate rifles wielded by no-nonsense people who have grown up shooting game in adverse conditions.

Of course all the Alaskans would need to do is pull back until the Ruskies run out of fuel! Then the fun would begin.

Wasn't this a (bad) movie???? In Colorado, not Alaska.

Yesterday in Texas there was a line of stock trailers over a mile long and growing of ranchers trying to sell cattle at an auction. Some trying to sell off entire hearts. Between fuel prices, feed prices, the drought causing wells and wallets to run dry. Sheep and goat markets are about the same. No measurable amount of rain in months over most of the agricultural portions of Texas.

I’ve seen it bad before but between nature and Biden’s policies us ranchers are loosing big time. Stock is being sold off for whatever can be got but your consumer prices are going to sky rocket like never seen before.

I would expect prices in near term to drop due to the increased supply of perishables- I'm sure the DemonRats hope this price drop will last through the November election. But when the supply is bought there will be nothing to restock the coolers, and then, Katie Bar the Door, because then there will be inflation as not seen in memory. Good luck to the demons then.

After the last big sell off the major beef holders moved everything to feed lots and kept them as long as possible so as not to release it to the market and keep prices from falling. It will probably be done the same way this time. Supply will be up but prices won’t drop and if they do it won’t be by much and it will be short lived.

2 kings 20:19
“The word of the LORD you have spoken is good,” Hezekiah replied. For he thought, “Will there not be peace and security in my lifetime?”
Some might say it will never come during my time. Of course Hezekiah showed no concern for those after him.
However, when I see some of the things coming from the loudest group it is hard not to want it to crash while I am still here to see their reaction. (Yes, on my head too.)

How many countries crashed from our subprime loan debacle? I guess the USA still has some cards up its sleeve. Yeah, it took us down also.

Remember? It will somehow be different for him. Somehow they just did it wrong. He won't so it will be okay.
Will this be like the Egyptians Pharoah's? They had their successes carved on the walls but nobody includes their failures.

Smoke and mirrors! Must have watched the pre screening of Sleepy China Joe’s “Build Back Better” fantasy video produced by Disney.
yes "build back better" is the catch cry of the World Economic Forum, Clause Schwab and the Davos crowd that all the world leaders who have signed up to the globalists use, including Brandon

Oil prices would go much higher if Russia shuts in Kazakh oil pipelines

I remember seeing hay bales rolling along by May or June of 2011. The drought that year started in early March, and lasted until some time that November. I had just planted a small fruit orchard - peaches, plums, pears, muscadines, and figs. Even though I was out in the county, I was still on city water. Those bare-root fruit trees didn't seem to care for a steady diet of nothing but chlorinated water. Everything died except the figs.

In 2011, where I was in Coldspring, Texas, we got about 45 straight days of 100+ weather, several days reaching 110, as I recall. So hot, in fact, that I didn't think about cracking the windows in my truck, and I ended up getting a heat overpressure and got a couple really nasty cracks in my windshield.

Deja vu all over again. I put in 40 crepe myrtles, 80 wax myrtles, and a dozen purple robe locusts in February - improving the inner boundary around the place. I have been watering every 48 to 72 hours since. I run the well dry at least once a week (we only use it for ag). So far, they are surviving, but it is wearing me down, and the jury is out whether or not I will. We have not had a drop since mid-April.

My farmer has yet to harvest the corn - probably hoping a passing motorist will throw out a cigarette butt. With yields running less than half of last year, prices around the same and diesel 2X, it will likely cost him more to harvest than it is worth.

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...
Behind the scenes of taking that perfect picture.....

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
