apparently the civilian casualties were very high during the Normandy invasion as well as their towns being destroyed causing a hell of a lot of civilians to say they would have preferred to have been left alone and as they were
Yeah, left alone to deal with the Nazi's. The Vichy may have felt that way, but I cant imagine the majority did.

I thought you were smarter than that. Vietnam was not a defeat other than the myth perpetrated by the media and ignorant professors.

I might add, to what @Red Leg has said:
That mr Võ Nguyên Giáp, had a bit of his input in the overall outcome, one of greatest military leaders and strategists of 20 century. It is claimed that he never lost a battle, in three consecutive wars: first indo china war (against french), vietnam war (against americans), indo china war (against china).

Until they faced the ovens as undesirables. Maybe not even then.

Are you talking about the Giap that was the mastermind behind the devastating TET offensive, rescued only by the liberal media that turned the military and political defeat into a media win? the same guy that directed the siege of Khe Sanh which cost the NVA an estimated 2 division, buried in their tunnels by B52 strikes. That mastermind?

During World War II, one soldier was given permission to return home. As soon as he arrived on the road near his house, he saw a parked military truck, loaded with corpses, and realized that the enemy had bombed his city. The truck was transporting dozens of corpses and was preparing to transport them to a mass grave.
The soldier stopped in front of the stacked corpses to take a last look at them and noticed that the shoe on the woman's foot resembled a shoe he had previously bought for his wife. He rushed to his house to check where his wife was, but quickly returned to the truck to check the corpse and found his wife! After the shock the soldier suffered, he didn't want his wife buried in a mass grave, so he asked her to be pulled out of the truck so he could bury her.
During the transfer, it was found that she was still breathing slow and difficult, so she was transported to the hospital where she was given first aid and brought back to life. A few years after the incident and the war ended, his wife, who was supposed to be buried alive, got pregnant and gave birth to a boy named Vladimir Putin. He is the current president of Russia.

When a nations currency is so worthless it can't purchase fuel or food.

Looks like Sri Lanka is in the middle of a revolution and the first domino to fall. We may be in for some bad years around the world.

After reading through all this I seemed to have missed something- or my history is all wacky. The implication in a lot of these posts is that the main cause for the fall or dissolution of the Soviet Union was the Vietnam War? Huh? I know they supplied a lot of weaponry and some training personnel to the North- for example in the use of their SAMs.... but seems there is a disconnect here. I know that Afghanistan was a dead end for them for certain and their retreat from Afghanistan may have been one of the very first sparks. But I'm having trouble connecting the fall of the Soviet Union with the Vietnam War. I had always thought that the main causes for the Soviet dissolution were many faceted and included, among other things: the US beating them to the moon, Pope John Paul II, the Pershing missile system, the strength of Reagan's personality and his brilliant over-selling of the Star Wars systems... etc. The USSR simply couldn't keep up, fiscally or politically.

Yes, all that you listed did help bring down the expansion of communism as well as our involvement Korea and Vietnam. All of these actions are a result of the Truman Doctrine https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truman_Doctrine.
Some of our negative nellies only want to talk about our defeats or how we didn’t do it perfectly. It’s The Great American Experiment because we are figuring out how to do this process that Jefferson defined in The Declaration of Independence. The 2022 Ol’Miss University Baseball Team maybe a good analogy. This year they finished last in the SEC West. This year in the SEC Baseball tournament that got eliminated in the first round. They did win enough games over the season to qualify for the NCAA Collegiate World Series. They finally figured it out and are the National Champions this year.

Complicated place and history with a lot of those chickens coming home to roost. Add in the well meaning Euro/American climate hysterics who for the price of a loan have nearly destroyed the nation's agricultural industry upon which all these teaming thousands rely upon to eat, and we have the equivalent of a neo-colonial Asian Zimbabwe.

Some estimates have them losing about 4 divisions during Tet

From what I have read, leadership bought into green energy in a big way. They also have limited fertilizer to become more green.

Extrapolate it out to the Earth. Cut backs on use of oil based products will result in reduction of food production and transportation. This will lead to reductions in populations. According to one analyst that I heard the primary determining factor will be the nearness of arable soil. Countries that have little arable land would have significant decreases in population. I recall the rate of matter decaying had effects on long term production- the result is that land in the temperate zones with slower rates of decay had better natural fertility.
Since food was the original reason for war, it will be interesting to see how the industrial countries with little food production handle a food shortage.

The next 2-3 years may be tough on the lower class of the world. North Africa and South Asia especially.

If you want a fictional depiction of global population reduction and its aftermath read "Fever" by Deon Meyer. At least it was fictional when it was written pre-pandemic. Its set in South Africa.

If he gives our oil away then he can't reverse the plan and let us use it. Besides, isn't it better to let China pollute their own land with our oil?
How in hell is giving our oil to China when we are in a crisis "building back better"?? That's aiding and abetting the enemy. The kickback must be great.

It shows you that Brandon doesn't give a sh*t about the US, or the population. We need to turn the tide, and we need to be proactive and vote, and convince those who do not want to vote to vote. If this has happened in less than two years, imagine the next two? We need to change the course of our country, or we won't have a country left.

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
