If there is another move in this chess match, in your opinion are the Baltic States next?

It seems logical to reconnect the landbridge to Kaliningrad. Obviously that would trigger the entire NATO scenario however.
That scares me worse than anything. Putin has either been very shrewd or extraordinarily reckless and lucky. I hope it is the former. I am confident that NATO will fight if the Russians attack the Baltic States. I assume such a Russian decision would only follow a period of ramped up tensions along those borders. NATO should, in my opinion place a brigade combat team on the ground in each of those three countries. That would mean any attack instantly involved NATO (and obviously American troops). Russia could devastate the infrastructure of those three countries with missile strikes. However, as I noted in a previous post, the Russians would not be fighting 3rd and 4th generation export fighters, but first line US 4th gen plus and true 5th gen aircraft. In the American case, they are flown by the most experienced pilots in the world. They would achieve air dominance within 48 - 72 hours. That would lay open Russian ground forces to sustained strike by NATO attack helicopters and ground attack fixed wing assets. I probably should also add that American attack helicopter pilots are also the most experienced in the world.

What worries me is that Putin would conclude we wouldn’t actually pull the trigger to defend the Baltic. I am confident that we would, but our current leadership does not seem capable of inspiring much caution among our opponents. Hence, the chance for miscalculation.

Finally, should all that occur, what would a then cornered Putin due to stave off defeat (both military and domestic political). That is what frightens me the most.

I got the comrade democrats with Ivan & Uncle Sam (I had to translate “freedom” and the bottom text)

I was trying to make a joke about saving the world from global warming, by commenting comrade environmentalists (which translated to ecologists :E Shrug:)
Oh, I get your joke. The topic is popular, there is even a meme: "let's hit by nuclear winter - on global warming."
By the way, both are fake. For example, during volcanic eruptions or giant forest fires in Siberia and Canada, more aerosols are released into the air than during a nuclear war. And nothing happens.

No one will use nukes. If someone did, the area nuked would be unihabitable from fallout for decades. So the nuker would not be able to occupy and the area would be contaminated and useless. Someone hits a button on one side, the other side hits a button and there goes humanity. No one will take that chance. A lot of blat and bellow, conventional weapons and ground forces.
That assumes the button pusher cares about the outcome.
Some with the core thinking that they get mega rewards after they die gloriously have zero concern for those still alive.

I have not heard exactly such statements. But this is implied, and it is clear to all participants.
As for the use of nuclear weapons, it is regulated by Russia's military doctrine, which is not secret. There, the grounds for use are called a nuclear attack on Russia, its allies or their armed forces, or a non-nuclear attack on Russia, endangering the very existence of the state.
The conflict in Ukraine, thank God, does not yet fall under these definitions.
In general, Putin once answered a similar question about the destruction of the world in a nuclear war: "I don't need a world in which there will be no Russia."
I saw that statement from Putin on Fox TV a few days ago.

I cropped this down....as I find it ironic that the anti gun BBC...who regularly feature gun culture in a bad way in the USA and anything negative about it..have one of their reporters actually saying civilians are bearing arms to protect their country......

Apparently the stock markets were happy the sanctions weren't as bad as they thought , and that the swift payment system wasn't involved...oh and one of the major Russian oil and gas companies wasn't included as well I think....

The trick is to find where it really hurts and hit'em there...

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Out of all the different color variations of Impala the black Impala just stands out with its beautiful pitch black hide.

Impala is one of the animals you will see all over Africa.
You can see them in herds of a 100 plus together.

This excellent ram was taken with one of our previous client this past season.
