Politics

@CJW I do think that the baby boomers had it a bit better on the land acquisition front than Gen X or Gen Y. The bigger problem is we're about to see the greatest generational wealth transfer in history as those Boomers start bequeathing a lot of real property to X and Y.

People on this forum would call that natural upward mobility for a life well spent. Marxist have-nots are going to be furious that that wealth transfer occurs without them grabbing a large piece or all of it. This is going to be the dire problem of the next 15 years as the politics of envy and greed (socialists) are outraged at the reward of multigenerational good decision making.

I agree with you. I was merely making a comment on the state of the real estate market. But yeah people can get bitter at some else's inheritance but it won't do them any good.

Unfortunately I think @Red Leg took it as an attack on boomers but I see no reason to pretend that some homes in this country haven't skyrocketed in value or that some people aren't over-buying or being over-loaned by the banks. I certainly didn’t say that every boomer selling a home was making bank or that I wouldn't sell a home for max value either.

@Red Leg , that brings back memories. The first house I remember was government housing on a federal fish hatchery in Spearfish, South Dakota. Our alarm clock was a rooster pheasant on the roof and in the warmer months a groundhog that whistled at daylight under the house.
Like you my father eventually took a college teaching job and earned a doctorate degree from Auburn, even then we rarely ate out and it was a treat to go to McDonald’s. Not that there was much selection in the late 60’s and early 70’s in Auburn.

I seriously considered a position at that hatchery about a decade ago.

What an idiot. I would welcome people of means to come to my state and invest.
Definitely not smart, he’s probably worried that they will bring their left wing views with them, which I totally understand.

With all three of these gentlemen. We can sit until the wee hours having a cocktail and calmly debating our positions and never get angry with each other and always remain close friends.

I know that is rare.
It is very rare. I forbid talking of politics at home with my partner as she starts getting emotional and her volume goes up. We basically cancel each other's votes. She used to vote for GOP until Roe vs Wade got overturned.

Sad day for Nova Scotia the mp for my riding the only conservative in the province sold out and crossed the floor becoming a liberal.

Exactly.

Currently, the largest generational groups buying property are Millennials (38%). The largest group selling property are Boomers, either as estates or headed off to assisted living (53%). That represents a significant portion of the wealth transfer that is taking place.

Interestingly, or perhaps predictably, a smaller percentage of the population in large urban areas will experience that wealth transfer than in smaller urban environments.
I would never and did not abandon my parents to assisted living. This notion of rest homes (death centers) are a reprehensible business new to the last 50 years. Our parents and elderly are not disposable.

I am not saying this that is what you meant, sir. I’m saying me. Myself. I find the business of elder care tantamount to neglect and (in some cases) abuse.

Hate that for you @Tubby’s Canteen … seems to be the direction a lot of Canadian politicians are going these days, which is increasingly difficult for me to understand…

Even most liberals will now concede that Trudeau was a train wreck.. and I haven’t heard too many Canadians singing praises for Carney since he’s taken office… there’s a pretty robust Reddit thread where several hundred Canadians are talking, that range from far left to far right politically… the most favorable comments I’ve seen are along the lines of “not as bad as I expected”… the worst are along the lines of “disastrous policy that will kill our economy”…

If that many people are disenfranchised you’d think politicians at a minimum would be trying to get closer to center, if not start leaning harder right..

Unfortunately, they do. There’s a few that are R’s but for the most part they are Hard D’s and want the same shit they left. They drive up the price of housing and property taxes. I wish they would go away.

Yep, many states have been afflicted. They bring money and libtard politics.

Looks like republicans are being routed this evening though NJ has yet to be called. Hope it wakes some folks up about next year.

Maybe not, but she has a huge lead.

Fox says this was the highest voter turnout in NYC in 30 years.

And Hannity is trying to explain it away.

Around 20 October we were discussing the "No Kings" protest and many seemed to dismiss the significance. I agree with you in that I hope it wakes some people up and they reassess how they message in order to maintain buy in from their supporters.

Not really surprised except I hoped Virginia would have been closer. With Youngkin seemingly to be a popular governor I would’ve hoped some of his support would leach over to Sears. Apparently that was wishful thinking.
I haven’t seen any numbers on the Virginia AG race yet.
After all New Jersey is a blue state with a few exceptions and with the northern Virginia growth and turning deep deep blue the republicans will have a hard time in most elections.

I believe the quickest election call made for a governor in VA.

Even some of the counties that Sears won are still close. Hanover County voted over 40% FOR Spanberger, that's wild.

That State is going to keep getting worse unfortunately.

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl
