The last two Democrat administrations have nominated some of the most unqualified people imaginable. A hundred years ago, many of them would have been in a mental institution.

I'm not going to debate this any more because it's fruitless. You will have one view, I have another. The bottom line is: NJ (at least) pays far, far more into the federal government than it receives. All the while, we get double taxed.

My view? No SALT cap limit raise? I either a) Want more from the federal government or b) want my tax dollars to go less into the federal government. Give me the first option, so be it. More money for schools, healthcare facilities, etc. I am all for it.

You look at it as: We (not me) elect bad leaders. Maybe so. You shouldn't have to "subsidize us". I don't vote for these people, believe me. And NJ has a very good shot of going red for governor.

I look at it as: 60-70% of the country lives on our dime, as well as the other states, and either give us a break, or it's time to stop the gravy train.

Once again, I am not even pushing for unlimited SALT. $40k is very fair, considering it leaves only about $10k left above the standard deduction. And that goes for everyone. Folks like @Russ16 who live in VA. Other folks in MD.

Word around the campfire is the bill might be DOA in the senate, let alone the house for reasons of SALT and Medicaid cuts. Good let it die.

FWIW, I agree with some of the ACA cuts. Why is someone I know of getting a 75% ACA subsidy from the government on their healthcare when the wife still pulls in 6 figures from the hedge fund she's semi-retired from?

We all pay property taxes but I don’t mind it if it is reasonable and mostly goes to schools. In Colorado, I own a nice five-bedroom home, a 3200 square foot shop/barn and hundreds of acres of pasture. My property taxes are well below $10k per year! I bet our public schools put yours to shame.

Our state income tax is a fixed 4.6%. Before you go there, know that I don’t get any mortgage interest deduction because I don’t have a mortgage. I’m going to bet that I pay more in federal income tax than you and paid another $500k in one chunk when I sold my business. My son in NY finished the basement in his home and his taxes went up by $6000! Your local governments are out of control and you want the rest of us to subsidize you. No thanks!

The same here in Denmark. You are a renter and if you don`t pay the property tax they can drag you to court. From here the government seize and sell your(theirs really) property and you you have any loans the the banks will demand their money the same day the govenment seize the property. Can or will one not pay the banks its a new trial and from here I guess you really go bust. Are you a payroll worker the IRS through the courts can claim up to 75% from your employer of your wages if you have public debt. If one has private debt you are locked to obtain any loans as your name is registred as insolvent.

Clerked for Justice Stephen Breyer 1999-2000 and two federal judges.

She was a federal public defender from 2005-2007. (That too is rather different than being a public defender at the county courthouse).

She was US District Court Judge, District of Columbia 2013-2021 where she issued over 500 opinions with only 12 reversed on appeal.

She was a US Court of Appeals Judge, DC Circuit 2021-2022

She was rated unanimously qualified for her Supreme Court nomination by the American Bar Association.

As I say, I don't agree with her political philosophy and with respect to this decision, firm constitutional interpretation and judicial precedent are there to argue against it. But to declare she is a DEI hire or somehow unqualified for her position, which seems to be the thing to do on the right side of the internet at the moment, makes the loony right look at least ignorant if not far worse.

Interesting you mention REAL home ownership--DeSantis made the same remark recently and promised that property taxes in Florida would not put the elderly out of their homes because of increased tax valuation since their purchase. I support that idea. Government should know its place or be put in its place.

I absolutely agree that she appears to firmly hold a set of core liberal beliefs. You can call it activism if you wish, though she isn't out marching with a sign. I would further concur many of those beliefs run counter to what I believe was the founders' intent. I believe she was also absolutely wrong in seemingly supporting the imperial judiciary Justice Barret described in the majority opinion of Trump vs CASA. But she is no idiot, and she is absolutely qualified for the role.

Might ought to get use to her - she is only 54.
