Excellent article by Clint Brown regarding the machinations behind the Senate Majority Leader election. Kudos to Mike Lee for pushing changes to Senate rules. I don't know what this Senate will ultimately do but my hope is definitely higher.

"5. To fulfill the Trump Mandate in the 1.5 years we have (2026 is midterm elections!) we MUST have a highly functional Senate. Republican infighting is the greatest threat to having a functional Senate. Senators are less susceptible to political pressure than the House."

Always good when others notice.

I too am very hopeful with respect to Thune's leadership.

I think most of us would absolutely agree with that. Several years ago, the Army was directed to make all combat MOSs open to qualified women. That aspiration seems to be pretty self-regulating thus far. As I said, breaking track, pulling a pack, or rucking in body armor is not for the frail. Very, very few women have shown any real interest in the opportunity.

Self regulating or not I still don't believe women belong in those roles. I'm glad they've shown little interest in it though. Sort of say a lot.

Not for the frail at all. A co-workers daughter was an athlete in high school. She didn't make it out of basic training though. The piss pounding fractured her pelvis.

But that does not mean they are not in "combat" roles, particularly in the age of loitering munitions (drones), GPS guided missiles, and shoulder fired air defense weapons. For instance, women have been very successful in the medical MOSs. Treating and evacuating wounded personnel on and from the battlefield is a very dangerous role. Firing rocket launchers such as the HIMARS, puts women on board one of the highest value targets on the battlefield. So does flying an apache, F-16, or F-18.

I understand they're still in combat roles. There just need to be lines drawn and yes there are even borderline roles like you and I pointed out. Aviation for example is a grey area but it is a different role that being boots on the ground. Obviously it does allow the possibility for women to be shot down behind enemy lines.

I think if we can keep the debate to the practical value add of women in the services then an eventual roles consensus will emerge.

I think the roles need to be hashed out first. Otherwise people get emotional assuming others think women don't belong in the military at all. The word combat is used too often and is too broad of a word. Women definitely have a role in our military.

Which the American mentality is: So Ignorant! So Blinded! and So unwilling to accept! such possible concepts; that female soldiers, Not All, but those that choose and are willing to commit to the challenge and in the end can out preform the male stereo type;

Stereotypes are generally based on reality.

The USA has labelled both Canada and the EU as threats to their "National Security" in order to justify new duties declared by their military Commander-in-Chief on the international trade of steel and aluminum. So I suggest that USA made products such as firearms and ammunition should be sold exclusively within the USA so Canada and Europe can help our esteemed neighbour defend themselves and improve their national security. Sadly, I have come to the conclusion that Canadians and Europeans should make do with their own products exclusively. For all our AfricaHunting friends in Canada, Europe, Africa and elsewhere, please don't buy any American made products. Lets's support the USA in their concern. One can never be too careful when there are evil guys to deal with, and it is our duty to help, as always.

Whoa there partner...

This is the Politics forum. Most of us read things here that we may not agree with. I for one like to read opposing thoughts. Those make me consider other points of view...

The politics thread isn’t the place for political discussion?

Shit… i guess i need to rethink my Rigby posts in the Rigby discussion thread now…

:D

I don’t know. There was a full 8 point difference between Trump and Lake in the AZ election this year. I assume 8% of the commufornians didn’t vote for Trump. This is Deja vu all over again from the last election for her. It was Trump supporters who caused her to lose then and again now.

Agree with you mostly. However it was not Trump supporters who caused her to lose, the responsibility for Kari Lake losing is on Kari Lake. She proved to be a losing candidate for governor, why Republicans thought she'd fare better in as a Senator candidate is on the party is beyond me.

I would submit that anyone who questions the combat lethality of women needs to meet some of the gold digging cougars we have here around the Dallas area. ;-)
I'll second that. When I lived in DFW area (mid-cities) there was some chick that drove a jacked up pickup truck with customized license plates "WAS HIS."

I was trying to say the same thing, just clarifying who did not vote for her if she underperformed Trump by eight points.

Fact are Facts......not every female nor every male belongs in a "frontline assault combat unit." But those days have long past. Combat action is now 360°. And all units can now be considered "combat" units.

The days of uniform vs uniform warfare has become military uniform vs terrorists, extremists, anti-whatever using whatever weapons they can get their hands on or can expediently conjure up to demoralize those fighting against them.

Lessons learned from Vietnam:

Vietnamese women rigged booby traps gave those devises to their children to kill US soldiers. Vietnamese women rigged themselves with explosives to get in close to kill US soldiers.

Terrorists, extremists, anti-whatever, have adopted and expanded the use of expedient explosive devices and use of suicide bombers to attack and kill US soldiers.

These same groups have no qualms in who they attack as long as their objective is met and that is to demoralize and kill Americans and any other nationalities they deem against their evil cause.

add girlfriend/"girlfriend", boyfriend/"boyfriend", and husband/"husband".

This is an irrelevant. As this isn’t just a military problem. It's a soceital problem. Especially in America.

IIRC it was in the mid to late 1970's or early 1980's it was estimated that 50% of all marriages ended in divorce. And a break down as to highest to lowest percentages of those getting divorced: marriages less than 2 years, 2-4 years, etc., with the 10 -15 years of marriage having the lowest divorce rate. And finances was the number one reason for divorce. Military having the lowest wage pay scale.

Then the history of queers in the military being Section 8: to Tolerance; to Don't Ask, Don't Tell; to it's acceptable within limits; to being open.

And with that said.

In today's military who's the "protect the girl" creating potential for poor judgement?

It does have merit. Once American society gets over the "women are fragile/frail" mentality.

Why deprive women of testing themselves in combat?

Why deprive women to prove themselves equal to or better than men?

Why deprive women the opportunity to earn the same awards and advancement as men?

Isreali women and men, "so rumor has it; and from my understanding"; I can neither confirm nor deny....They treat each other as equals. Their "code" is simple: First they respect each other as individuals, as soldiers, and competent equals.

Same for the Russians military men and women.

Which the American mentality is: So Ignorant! So Blinded! and So unwilling to accept! such possible concepts; that female soldiers, Not All, but those that choose and are willing to commit to the challenge and in the end can out preform the male stereo type;

UGH...I personally want to rip out their male Freaken throats out, because they can't accept a woman is more capable of doing "a job" that their male ego lacks in the ability to preform.
Well....that answers my questions.....my military was from decades ago. I do believe Merit is the key....don't change the job standards of what is required to accomplish the tasks.

I personally believe the issue in America is beyond man vs woman in the military, we have a couple of generations of young folks who are so messed up they dont even meet the basic quals to enlist, I.E. almost 31 % are too overweight , then the drug problem, I have a grandson who tried to enlist in the army guard they wouldn't talk to him because he was still on RITALIN a drug that is passed out like candy to school age 'kids' by the psych counselers , in a nut shell Americas youth are fat, lazy, psyched out, addicted to electronics, have no ambition , and never had a job and cant pass the asvab test. Oh I know your kids arent like that , but in General shall we say. which is the way the military deals with people , one size fits all, conform, non conformist get weeded out, MENS haircuts , uniforms, all the same.
my understanding is all boys and GIRLS still have to register with the selective service. this may be wrong , but if you dont know your sex or want to change it no problem gov will pay for your sex change.
as for man vs woman I watched the TAYLOR VS. SERRANO boxing match last nite, I wouldnt want to go 8 rounds with either, but again this is the exception ,not the hard fast rule. When I served, I was an air traffic controller ,radar. which any women with higher than average intelligence could do, however I was also assigned to " attached " to a combat communications unit, and we pulled 24 hr shifts in the field full gear kit and did what was necessary from pulling guard duty to driving tent stakes, running cable, ect. And the few women I observed there didnt have to do their job because there was alway a couple of guys not far away watching them and would step up and say " let me help you with that'. and the cuter the girl the more guys they attracted for help.

Pretty sure only males are required to register.
