Politics

We are definitely a lot different than animals in many ways.
We are able to manipulate our environment in any way we like, including raising food and extracting materials.
We are not gods but we are very close to it on this planet.
We are more advanced and can have a bigger impact but to say we can manipulate the environment in any way we like is ridiculous and exactly what extreme environmentalists are teaching. Can we make it rain? Can you stop it from raining by going outside and snapping your fingers? Can we stop volcanic eruptions? Can we stop tectonic shifts? Can we control the other planets? Can we control orbits in our solar system? Can we control the intensity of the sun?

Yes, we can drill for oil and create mines, cities, highways, etc… but we also do several things to protect areas. Ever hear of national parks? Wilderness areas? Game reserves? National forests? BLM primitive areas? Conservation easements on private lands? We have protected lots of land. In some countries, we need to protect more. Nobody wants oil rigs or coal mines in Yellowstone NP but you know what? I am perfectly fine with the coal mines near Gillette, WY. Due to directional drilling, you won’t see another oil field with a well on every 40 or even 160 acres like happened near Pinedale, WY or Midland, TX in the past. My son has designed wells and drilling pads with five wells on one pad that go all different directions from one spot. This is the new norm.

Sure, we can affect our environment and the surface of the earth to a degree, but if you think we are anywhere near to controlling our weather, intensity of storms, volcanic activity, tectonic activity, temperatures of the seas, short term climate and long term climate, you have been brainwashed. We are one asteroid impact or one big eruption away from being annihilated as a species. All the more reason to enjoy life and go hunting!

Mimm...what does extreme environmentalist or climate change have to do with the statement I made about controlling the environment? also who said anything about other planets?
I think you are the one who's brainwashed trying to see everything from a political angle?
As far as the things we can't control on this planet yet, wait couple more thousand years...
We are the caveman looking at an Iphone now compared to what will happen.

I am far more a Deist than dogmatist (love alliteration), but the Bible is always good for a 2500 year old quote or two, depending who actually penned Genesis. Goes right to that God thing as well.

Genesis 1-26

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
I've been a Deist as long as I remember and proud to be in the same company with our founding fathers Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Paine, George Washington and many others.

Lame response.

I’m not political about the environment. I have been a wilderness outfitter for 32 years. Nobody loves wild areas more than me but I also understand why we need some development and balance.

You said we can manipulate the environment ANY way we like. That was extreme to me. The things I brought up, we cannot control and they have a direct impact on the environment in an infinite way more than we do.

Referencing science fiction literature, I have often thought we are headed, with our planet, in the direction of whip trees, as described by Orson Scott Card in Skipping Stones, or something like Trantor, as created by Asimov. Perhaps that sounds crazy or extreme, but I just think that far too few people care (and that isn't going to change), and if the human population continues to grow that seems like a probable outcome, somewhere down the line. Or maybe we wind up in an Earth Abides situation before we ever get to that point. :p

Sometimes it's good to see what your Country is doing to you specifically. Some of the little things.
Here's one: On Oct 12th, 2023 the Consumer Protection Bureau and the DOJ issued a joint statement telling banks that illegal immigrants have the same right to Govt backed loans as US citizens. For houses, farms or businesses. (said it is not legal to consider immigration status of applicant). Combine this with their earlier pub saying that loans are granted first to applicants from "groups historically marginalized" ..(.read that as "anyone but a White Male) and you see where this leads. While Joe is napping, or talking to a bicycle helmet.......the libs running the Country are running amuck........so does a gang member from Venezuela have a better chance of buying a farm than a Vet? Who knows? .......BTW....their own demographics show that the group most likely to repay the loan is........you guessed it......The White Male. .............enjoy your freedom.............FWB

Apologies if this has already been posted. Pretty darn funny stuff.

Effing BRILLIANT!!

Looks like the average monthly salary in Russia is $787

The US is approximately $4949. That would mean that grocery bill measured in the US equivalent proportion of income would be $728. What an absolute consumer paradise.

Now I need to go read up on those references!

Tucker has turned into a real nitwit. Maybe he should just move over there and try to setup a show there. He’d end up just like Navalny.

You are correct, it’s a complicated matter.

The primary reason for collapsing test scores and our terrible public school system is the teachers unions putting teachers before education.

We need 100% school vouchers. To drive competition. Inter city kids don’t stand a chance.

Between math is racist nonsense.
To a father being arrested for protesting at a school board meeting because they covered up his daughter’s rape in a bathroom by a known rapist. He later won his lawsuit.

Another example of the collapse of our society is poor education

Plus I believe the No Child Left Behind mentality has done more harm than good.

Don't forget "Everybody is a winner" mentality.

There's a projection and a theory out there showing World population will start shrinking in 2060's...
It's already happening in most developed countries.

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe

Hi Walden. Good morning from England, Chris here (The Englishman!) from Croatia. Firstly it was a pleasure to meet you and Michelle - a fellow Sanderson! I have finally joined AH as I enjoy it very much. Glad you enjoyed the hunt and your write up which I read on AR was very good indeed. I am sending on WhatsApp pics from Bojan of some of the animals hunted recently. Take care and best regards. CS.
