Healthcare is just like any other product: it is subject to supply & demand. Unlike other products the demand curve is flat since people don't want a procedure unless it's needed; and the supply (aka medical staff) is vertical since the time & effort to become a provider (doctor) does not change (in the near term, years). As population increases due to immigration and longer lives, the demand increases. Merely giving everyone insurance only answers the payment issue, nothing for the availability issue.
So if you want medical services at a reasonable price, get rid of for-profit insurance companies and legislate for more medical schools that in addition to fully trained doctors provide specialized providers who can do a few things very well without the years and years of medical school.
One only need look to the amount of medical school graduates compared to the number of law school graduates to see the source of the supply problem.
Hang around a Medicaid clinic sometime. Build it, make it "free" (taxpayer subsidized) and they will come. Many view such clinics and "free" services as a weekly social event, needed or not.

There's a difference between healthcare and freecare. I was referring to healthcare where a person has a diagnosed problem for which the medical services has or is working on a solution. Freecare is where people go who are hypochondriacs, bored, or need an activity to fill an afternoon. When there is a medical problem price is not an issue- it is needed regardless as to price- as such the quantity of such demand is the same regardless as to price. Same thing on supply- the number of doctors doesn't change so the supply of services remains the same regardless of price. What has changed in the last several years is the redirection of doctor's time from patients to filling out forms justifying this to that- the result is a decrease in medical services - an unintended consequence of government and for-profit insurance interference.

The loyal Trump sites were lauding his reception at the Clemson game yesterday - until suddenly they weren't any longer  (for you Yankees and other foreigners that is in red South Carolina) . I suspect this would have been a different crowd in '20. Some of the true believers should perhaps pay attention. :E Head Scratch: It is hardly just the band, and I would describe the reception as decidedly mixed.

This is pure speculation, but I would venture that the booing largely comes from the indoctrinated students and the cheers mostly from the over 35 crowd in the stands. These days, a University is a bad place for any Republican to show up.

I am trying to imagine an "indoctrinated" Clemson student. :A Shades: Perhaps like an indoctrinated Texas A&M student?

Could be that, or an alternative explanation is that I've noticed among my very conservative-minded college age daughters and their friends is that this generation can sniff out (and has a very low tolerance for) bullshittery; even when it masquerades as a conservative.

Precisely why my daughter and my money won't be going to College Station. They sit on their ridiculously large endowment and piss money away on that so-called coach, all while raping the students with over-priced tuition. No thank you, we'll pass...

Language is funny... :)

This is a good article on how universities in the U. S. pay their football coaches. The power 5 football schools actually generated enough money from the football program to pay those salaries. The smaller schools have to be more creative. I was not a fan of the contract that Coach Fisher received after going 9-1 in 2020. I do believe that the AD of at Texas A&M that offered him that contract should be fired too. In the long run Coach Fisher was fired for not winning enough football games. There have been and will be highly paid coaches that will be fired for other reasons. Hopefully, our new guy will be like that guy LSU hired awhile back by the name of Nic Saben.

I agree with you on some of this, but not all.

For my case and I know many in this country, their medical insurance provider is in reality the company they work for. The larger companies especially are "self-insured." They provide the pool of money on their own that is used to pay for services. The insurance companies aren't providing those funds, they are simply administering the benefits as dictated by the contract they have with the employer. I'm no lover of insurance companies, but the fact is their profit margins on a percentage basis are actually quite low in my opinion. The one report I looked at showed them to be like 3.3%, definitely below 4%. Now granted, 3 or 4 percent of a very large sum of money is a lot of money to be certain. But I don't think you can ask them to run their business for free and someone has to do this job in a non social medicine system like we have in the USA.

Where I do agree with you is on the supply side. Near as I can tell this is purposely held tight by AMA (American Medical Association). The limited number of med grads we get is due to the AMA and their efforts to hold the limits low. This of course translates to higher pay for them. They will in turn argue with you that if you want more doctors, then they'll need to reduce standards for admission and graduation from the med schools. And then they'll ask you if you want to be treated by a doctor who is less qualified? Quite the Catch-22 isn't it?

I don't know anything about World Today News other than it is owned by the BBC.

If true, we may know where some US Tax dollars are going.

Interesting and informative video on the AC-130J "Ghost Rider" gunship. Spoiler alert, no it isn't armed with a 6.5 CM. That would likely violate the Geneva Convention and probably make the aircraft unstable.

Will appear in the Aggie Museum, right next to Jimbo's national championship plaque!

Don't remember if it was the Aggie museum, but forty years ago in some building there was, in a glass case with other paraphernalia a 410x410 over .22 lr drilling. It was the first such gun I had ever seen and I was smitten!

It is apparently another of these UAIN sites that generate thousands of AI written articles to create the impression of a legitimate news service in order to attract automatic advertising from large businesses. A program like ChatGPT is given a set of names, a subject such as secret yachts (using perhaps actual names of actual boats), and a price, and the program does the rest. The stilted language of the article is a giveaway, though that tech sadly is improving daily.

A right wing site in the US then picks up the made-up story which fits neatly into the confirmation bias of its readership. Just a quick google search and I have already found three sites running with virtually the exact verbiage from the AI generated article.
