Canceling valid leases, removing acreage from future sales, and attempting to reduce production in Alaska while taking steps to allow Iran and Venezuela to produce more oil, with fewer environmental regulations, makes no sense and is frankly embarrassing.

That’s what Joe Manchin, a Democrat Senator for West Virginia and the Chairman of the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, said in a statement posted on his website after the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) revealed that it canceled oil and gas leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) and proposed new protections in National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska (NPRA).

Arctic National Wildlife Refuge sustains people, wildlife, and fish in the northeastern corner of Alaska, a vast landscape of rich cultural traditions and thriving ecological diversity. It is located on the traditional homelands of the Iñupiat and Gwichʼin peoples.

Approximately the size of South Carolina, the refuge has no roads or facilities. The lands and waters are a critical home to migratory and resident wildlife, have unique recreational values, and contain the largest designated Wilderness within the National Wildlife Refuge System. Many people may know of the refuge by an abbreviation: ANWR (pronounced an-whar). The full name reminds us that the refuge is part of our national heritage, designated for wildlife conservation.

My dads old college roommate was in the USFWS as was my dad but his roommate was stationed in Alaska in the 70’s. He was pretty high up not sure if he was head of the refuges in Alaska but he was always trying to get us to visit but we could never swing it. Huge regret.

This is not a good sign for Hunter beyond the gun charges. No income tax charges were included in this, and yet they also were part of the plea deal. I suspect there is some chance he is looking at another set of charges to be filed in California with respect to tax evasion. The other wild card is the foreign representation issue which put Paul Manafort away.

Nothing will come of this, not even a slap on the wrist. Daddy will bury it so deep it will never be mentioned because he's as dirty as his kid. Like father, like son.

I agree that nothing will come of this but maybe it will open the eyes of enough of independent voters to see what scum they put in the White House and they either won’t vote or change sides. Hopefully not just wishful thinking on my part.

I suspect there is some chance he is looking at another set of charges to be filed in California with respect to tax evasion. The other wild card is the foreign representation issue which put Paul Manafort away.

How fitting that Hunter was charged under Senator Biden's change to the law about drug users and firearms.

That said, I smell a pre-trial diversion deal for Hunter.

Probably so. The prosecution would be hard pressed to say something has changed where the charge is no longer suitable for diversion.

Trying to predict the future here, I don’t believe Brandon will ultimately seek a second term. I think next Spring he will bow out admitting that he’s completely brain dead and taking Kamala out with him. That’s what the Demonrats want anyway. Fidel Newsome will be the nominee with probably Michelle/Michael Obama as his running mate. A worst case scenario for the Republicans. Hope I’m wrong.

I read elsewhere that this was a signal from the "Deep State" to Joe not to run in 2024. Maybe yes, maybe no. Something along the lines of pardon your kid and get the hell out.

I agree this is not good for Hunter with both the tax evasion charges and the FARA violations still pending.
