....if that comment is directed at me, please elaborate and let's get down. If not, please disregard as a senior moment on my part.
No sir, no disrespect directed at you at all. I was making a comment on the post, and how it is destroying our nation. (y)

A friend sent me this article by Andrew McCarthy this morning. While I don't agree too much with McCarthy on some things, I think he is pretty accurate that the Dems want Trump as the nominee and that it would be catastrophic for the Republicans.

Precisely what they wanted. There was political chess way above the IQ level of the average GOP voter unfortunately.

Indict Trump on false charges, puts him ahead of DeSantis in GOP primaries by virtue of "righteousness".

DeSantis would have beat Biden (or any other dem), handily. Possibly even Haley. Which I have to think would have been either a DeSantis/Haley or Haley/DeSantis ticket.

Biden, or any other dem, comes up against an unelectable Trump.

= another 4 years of a dem president.

I still have hope the polls are wrong DeSantis has a shot.

I think you’re both giving way too much credit. There wouldn’t have been endless and ridiculous witch hunts from the beginning if the hate wasn’t deep, real, and tinged with fear.

I’ve heard this line of thinking and it reminds me of a scene in The Princess Bride…

Keep it simple, Occam’s razor and all, the reason for the never ending attacks and indictments and impeachments is very very simple, they do not want him to be able run. He drives them batshit crazy and TDS is real. And by many of the comments on here from supposed conservatives it’s working.

All that said, injecting a little Princess Bride into a political conversation can never hurt

"supposed conservatives"

Not caring for the stench created by someone who's an absolute ass to pretty much everyone, including folks in his own party, and who somehow made it to a very late stage in life without knowning how to act like an adult does not detract from someone being a conservative. It just means some of us expect more.

I agree that he drives them batshit crazy and that TDS is real. They're counting on that being true with enough people that it pushes Biden into a second term. I don't know that I place all that much faith in polls, but the polls do certainly support that thought.

I refuse to believe it's too late in the game: DeSantis/(another name) in 2024.

Right. Plain and simple: They are scared shitless of Trump and what he can(will)do if reelected. Note what he did in his first term concerning the economy, stock market, Russia, N. Korea, middle east to name a few. He said he'd drain the swamp and did get rid of a lot of deadwood. Being a lame duck this time without having to think about another term, imagine what he can do to a lot of worthless, useless garbage taking up space in Congress.
Granted, he is rude, crude and mouthy, but you have to admit he was damned effective. I have no love for him so this election is going to make or break this country. Going to be very interesting to see what develops.

Exactly what did he achieve in "draining the swamp?" He has even pretty much dropped it from his current campaign bragging.

The "useless garbage" that is likely to be taken out by him will be down ticket GOP congressmen, governors, et al in the states he doesn't carry.

I agree he would indeed be a lame duck from day one. But being one is normally, usually, most of the time not considered politically a good thing.

Latest estimates from DOD/intelligence agencies have been made public with regard to Russian losses just since December. Kirby made the release. There may be a pay wall challenge.

The opening paragraph offers a succinct summary.

"The White House said Monday it now estimates that just since December Russia has suffered 100,000 casualties, including more than 20,000 killed, as Ukraine has rebuffed a heavy assault by Russian forces in eastern Ukraine."

This tracks with what every other professional I know is seeing. It also contrasts dramatically with what is essentially Russian propaganda being offered up by Tucker Carlson, Douglas MacGregor, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

To give laymen a sense of scale of Russian losses, on Okinawa between 1 April and 22 June 1945, in the bloodiest battle of the Pacific campaign, the US Army and Marine Corps suffered approximately 49,000 total casualties of which 12.500 were killed in action.

This is a rather dramatic shift on the part of China. Xi also called Zelensky a couple of days ago which already was making Russian state media heads explode. India and Brazil joined China. All three had been abstaining on such votes.

Ok…that didn’t turn out like I wanted it!

I think chairman Xi has run out of patience with Russia. Any hope that Russia would wrap this up with a spring offensive has been dashed. A protracted conflict does not serve China’s interests. I expect a call to negotiation soon, with China playing the role of Switzerland. I also expect the media narrative to turn against Zelenskyy. He’ll certainly play hardball, as he should, but he’ll be portrayed as a warmonger. Despite the fact that Russia is occupying Ukrainian territory, not the other way around.

That is why Ukraine needs to launch their counterattack as soon as possible, and to demonstrate meaningful success. That in turn would put enormous pressure on Russia to find a way out.

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
