Outfitters & PH's have you ever been burned?

Comunication from his side went silent about two months ago!!

But as been said i don't know if it is worth taking down the good tone of the site!! This is a member from AH who hunted with me!! I think should any outfitter wants to know who it was they can PM me and i will tell them who it was!! I think it is our duty to warn each other on people like this!!

If he is not talking then he brought it on himself. Different if something happen as he was asking you for more time. just not answering anymore he is crossing a line. I would at least tell others by pm so they don't book him.

well maybe he will see this and decide better of sticking you for anything he owes yet

I was once, fully intend on not letting it happen again. I also learned a valuable lesson on trying to help a friend of a friend out.

Bob you are an awesome person and we had a very good hunt no need to worry and i would vow for you any day!!!:A Way To Go:

Phil
Not wanting to send out a message of distrust was the predicament i had, i gave the client the benefit of the doubt that he had really lost his wallet on the plane and only realized it on the last day of the safari :A Bang Head:,as i didn't wanted to be a prick about the situation!! And have him come on here and say how bad i was in not letting him get on a plane and sort out the payment as he gets home!! I have had the situation before where a client was short on money as well and propably will have it in the future as well? But not having any money except the balance of your daily fees at hand????
"Touch wood" so far only one has done this and the rest have settled their account within an acceptable time frame!! However this paticular hunt i am refering to was conducted in September 2014!:A Naughty:

But for now i guess we will have to see what happens next!!:A Whistle:

So for clarification. He had the money for his daily fees but not a penny more because the rest was in his "lost" wallet which would have contained roughly thousands more, and he only discovered it was lost on the last day of his safari?! If that's the case, I'm calling in a big way B.S.!!! There's no way I'm getting off that plane without knowing where all my money is. For that matter, there's no way on multiple occasions in flight I'm not checking on where my money is.

Whatever the case, he's been home since September and no contact?

+1 . . . if that's the case it doesn't meet the smell test.

...........

Guess you are just not one of those high rollers that drops his wallet (while carrying $15000 in cash) and pays no attention.

I personally don't see anything wrong with naming a crooked client or a crooked outfitter, a crook is a crook!!

Not to mention being called out infront of everyone may get some results on getting anything still owed.

No, I'm definitely not. I will have to say however that on my ride home from work, I had a bit of a moment of clarity. I realized I violated my own rule regarding issues being brought to the internet.

In fairness to the client in question, I would like to hear his side of the story. Right now it looks pretty bad and I just can't see how knowing the other side of side of the story is going to make things better. But nonetheless I'm going to back down just a bit.

If the AH member in question sees or maybe is even reading this thread actively, your silence on this matter does you no favors. If as I've suggested there is another side to this story that can explain things, then you have my apology. But it's out there now, and the ball is in your court.

Gerrit, by this post I do not wish for you to think that I'm saying your story is bunk. It's simply that I've seen too many of these events on the internet and have learned, save for a momentary lapse of reason today, to wait before jumping in with an opinion. I'm certain you've not been paid properly and I do hope this gets resolved.

I agree, Jeff, a crook is a crook. And, if the situation has been portrayed accurately it seems a wee bit hypocritical to offer the offender's identity solely to outfitters while protecting the offender's identity from others who may also be open to other sorts of dealings with the same individual.

It should be resolved by way of gaining the purported offender's side of the story, or put to rest. However, since it's already been brought to light leaving people hanging doesn't seem appropriate.

Lets just hope this helps gerrit get paid and all will be good. Maybe we will never need to know who and he will lean a hard lesson.

Reading this thread really shows that Gerrit really is a stand up guy. First he gave the guy the benefit of the doubt about the lost wallet. And now he has every right to call out this fink but won't because out of honor for this community. :A Way To Go:

gerrit sorry but i couldnt resist my earlier post as it tickled my sense of humour.............;) but i feel as he is a member of AH its kind of worse than if it was an "outsider", as you get to feel comfortable and trusting with the people on here........maybe we need to wise up, which to me would be a great shame......:(

Certainly has me thinking.
Keep your eyes open anyway. Con men can be nice guys to.

Been in retail 20 years stopped trusting people after I became a manager. Had people steal from me I knew for years. Customers will lie cheat and steal every chance they get.

Yes I sound jaded. Been burned too many times.

At the end if the day the AH member is full of BS as mentioned earlier. He no doubt is a con artist at home. Name him and let him prove that he paid you.

Disappointing and disgraceful behavior. You seem to have gone the extra mile and conducted business as a gentleman. Even exercising restraint and patience beyond what anyone should expect. I'm sorry to hear of your troubles Gerrit.
It's always comforting from the fairness aspect to hear both sides of an issue. I doubt that will be the case here.
Maybe the former client can still be persuaded it is in his best interest to just settle his account in full immediately and avoid the legal hassle and public scrutiny that would likely come from continuing to dodge responsibility ;)
I sincerely hope you come out whole on this one. Good luck.

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John [redacted]
