OR Tambo Airport, 7 Cops Suspended

I do not seem so concerned about the tipping situation, considering the overall cost of the hunt, and to "entrust" my rifle to someone or getting it cleared without a hassle seems a small token to pay. A couple of dollars here and there to get that weapon in and out of the country and on the flight....well...to me not a big deal. I have used Mr.X the last three years and have tipped him very well, but he has " white gloved" me thru the steps of arrival and flying out of Joberg...well worth the $$ to move thru the crowds and avoid any hassels. Just part of doing business in Africa, we tip a waitress or waiter 20% for bringing us a plate of food, etc, so what is the complaint when you hand over a weapon worth $100's or $1,000's to make sure it gets back to the USA, and toss in a 50 rand note.

Was this at OR Tambo? Your bow cases went to SAPS?
Yes, they came through oversized baggage. We were not allowed to touch them until they were carted to the office and individual signed for.

Just got back a couple days ago. The SAPS ladies asked for "something for the ladies" going and coming. I wanted to make sure my guns got on the plane so I gave them something. Just outside on the wall is a big poster about stopping the corruption.
Thought that was kinda funny.

Had the meet and greet on arrival, picked up gun walked out of airport not a dime. Back to Airport and checked gun into office for domestic flight within RSA at JNB, that where the "bite" came. And she flat asked asked for money (has she did not beat around the bush about either) to make sure my gun was on my flight to Sishen. The Sishen to JNB flight zero problem, and zero problem leaving RSA on the return flight home.

Sad but it is a safety factor. They have the power to lose your equipment if you don't.

My point exactly. They have you by the "@&$);" when it comes to your weapon when you hand over to them. That's the way it is and nothing is going to change it...just factor in an extra $25.00 for personal attention to handling your weapon.

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
