OR Tambo Airport, 7 Cops Suspended

Flew out of JNB last Thursday. The Delta guy assured me he would make sure my rifle got on the correct flight....three times he told me....ok here is 50 rand. Get it on flight 201......all part of doing business......not to enthusiastic of arriving in Atlanta 16 hours later and discover my rifle is residing in OR Tambo. The squeaky wheel gets the grease,, err I mean the tip.

All of the above makes me glad that on both of my trips I did not take my own rifles. Both of my trips trips to OR Tambo were excellent. I landed on Delta 200 and was out of there in less than 30 min. and on my way. When I depart I check my bag and head to the gate, no worries about my rifles making it back to ATL.

I am planning on going back in 2018, and I think I will leave my hunting clothes, a couple of jackets and a pair of boots in a duffel bag with my outfitter for use on future trips. That way all I will need to take is a carry on. I am all about avoiding hassles and that should make things as hassle free as possible.

Just my 2 cents as usual.

hope they got the one that hit me and my partner up for $20 each. kind of suspicious that everyone cleared out of the office, except for you and the lady officer, who suddenly needed "something for them". it was just not worth the risk of ignoring the request and suddenly you don't have your rifle for safari.........

Been through Joberg many times with Rifles - never been asked by the SAPS people for anything ...........

However the "security people " have a couple of times tried it on - however I pretend not to understand English very well

Got the security lady in PE a coffee once while I was waiting on my guns to turn up - but that was me going for a coffee and as I was the only hunter there and lunch approaching - did not want to hang around while she had lunch !

Taxi Drivers on the other hand !!!!!!

All of that makes sense especially if you know you will use the same outfitter again. The getting there is the worst part of these trips.

I know of a friend who had his ammo stolen by the police and when he threatened to go further they wanted to tear up his rifle permits.

I had great service at the SAP in June, I did the paperwork myself and we were out of there in less than 30 minutes. No problems on the way back either!

I followed the ladies into the "jail room" to retrieve 3 bow cases. it was very sketchy, but the ladies were very nice, friendly, and quick to help me get my equipment. I had no problem tipping them $10. Was it right??? Hell I don't know, but It was worth it to me.

I used a service, the "bite" came at the office you turn your gun into to get on your domestic flight.
