Optic on 375

For me it is the other way round, to hunt I want equipment I can trust, when punching hole in paper-well, a failing scope isnt really a problem...
And trust me, the fantatic Vortex warranty (yes it is fantastic!) dosent realy matter when you hunt goes south due to a failed scope. Guess how I know..

My reply was going to be the exact same until I saw you beat me to it.

My .375 wears a 1.75-6x Leupold with a heavy duplex reticle. Unfortunately, this scope is no longer made. Unless the animal is small at longer range, I wouldn’t feel handicapped with it. At some point, I may replace it with something with an illuminated reticle (Leupold or Trijicon)
I tend to prefer lower magnification ranges: 1-6x, 1.5-5x, 2-7x, 2.5-8x, unless there is a good chance, of a 250yd+ shot. Few of my rifles wear scopes with a high end over 10x and those are rifles intended for open country. IMO, you don’t want a .375 to have a low end over 2.5x.
As far as Vortex, I’ve never owned one, but have shot rifles with them. The higher end Razor and Viper have pretty good optics. However, just an observation, a fair number of these Vortex owners have had to send them in for service. These are not mounted on heavy recoiling rifles and are pretty much paper punchers. Their customer service is great, but I’d rather not have to use it.
Leupold, too, has great customer service, but in over forty years and over twenty scopes, I’ve only had to send one in for service. that was a new scope who’s power ring needed a pipe wrench to turn. I sent it in, and had it back in less than two weeks, working perfectly. I also have Zeiss, and Swarovski and never had an issue.

For a low power DG scope it is not just about the glass quality, which should be a given, but also field of view. You don't want a big beast rushing in from right or left that you see too late. That is why my DG scope on my 375 was a Leica Magnus 1-6.3x24i. Can't get better.

In that situation, wouldn't an open sight double be a better option? I'm not trying to compare a Simmons or BSA scope to Leica or Zeiss. I just wanted to know people's experience with the Viper series of Vortex, which gets very high reviews just about everywhere.

Guess who's supplying the US Army's next combat optic.....the higher-end Vortex optics are excellent. This selection process was incredibly rigorous.

Do tell!

OK, so I wanted to follow up with a report..... I ended up getting the Vortex Viper PST Gen2 1-6x24. I mounted it on my 375 A-Bolt with Leupold QD base and rings. I have to say I am thoroughly impressed with this scope. Very clear, bright glass and the red dot is sharp and crisp. Turrets are very responsive and comes back to zero every time. It has almost 4 inches of eye relief which is nice on the bigger guns.

I know it's not a Zeiss or S&B, or a Ski, but especially what I paid for it, it's an outstanding scope. I lived and hunted in Germany for many years, I used all those scopes so I know the comparisons. At the end of day I would highly recommend this scope to anyone.

I am thinking of putting a Vortex Viper PST 1-6x24 optic on my 375 H&H, has anyone used this optic? Feedback appreciated.

To be honest I have had a variety of Vortex scopes and binoculars along with Leopold but have since sold all of them and bought nothing but swaro scopes. I have never had to drop $2 grand for them…have either caught them on sale or bought from a member and the performance and confidence they give me provides peace of mind when it counts
