on a lighter note...

And what means this "Negotiate much?"?
In the joke, this would be where everyone is supposed to understand the joke. If this were fishing, this would be setting the hook. He is asking her how often she negotiates to point out that she has just been tricked into agreeing to free services.

Her statement afterwards is to conclude the joke (and help people who don’t understand his comment either).

Russian jokes can be equally difficult for us, as I found out watching “Особенности национальной рыбалки.” My Russian roommate at university tried to help explain as he translated, but I don’t remember much of the plot except for fishing, and vodka jokes.

I have a little idea... about fishing... so he told her she wasn't very good at haggling? I would expect something like "You don't negotiate much" in this case.
Russian humor differs mainly in that it often does not have a punchline, more precisely, it is implied. The listener must guess and pronounces it to himself. And American jokes are long, rather they are even humorous stories.

This is not a very successful film. This is the sequel to the "peculiarities of the national hunt", that one is a cult film. It may be worth a look, although there is no actual hunting, but hunting and military jokes are collected. Humor is sometimes absurdist, sometimes a little pro-Western, well, this is a view of Russians from the point of view of Western stereotypes. It's definitely there with English subtitles on YouTube.
Another of the Russian films worth watching is "A Man from the Boulevard des Capucines" (it happens there in the wild West), as well as "Brother" https://sovietmoviesonline.com/melodrama/brat and "Brother-2" (available on Netflix). And that's all :)

Dissecting a joke is like dissecting a frog. In the end there might be a better understanding, but the frog still dies.
Interesting to see how language and cultural differences definitely affect humor. It's also fun watching the learning process to understand why different things are considered humorous in a foreign culture/language. In that line, there are things considered humor in the USA that are insulting in other parts of the world; and vice versa. There is value in understanding humor around the globe.

The movie ten items or less with Morgan Freeman.
At one point while with the young woman that has a Spanish speaking culture, he initiates a song she repeats after him. Then she does one that the punchline explained makes no sense to an American.

I frequently make jokes from some part of an old movie or TV commercial, but it fails to connect because others have to have seen the commercial and remember it to make my joke connection.
There are some movie lines that become universal but not many.

It used to be called natural selection. Now they put safety devices on cars so they can ram them into a wall at 100 mph and not be killed.
Yes, please feel free to stick your finger in the electric wall socket.
Yes, you can use the electric shaver or blow dryer in the shower or bathtub.
Yes, you can ride on the roof of the while we are doing 75 mph on the highway.
And so on.....

Yes, so true.

Being an Aussie I did not know why Y'all started saying "Let's go Brandon". It's been explained, I guess you had to see it to appreciate it.

I caught on who Sleepy Joe is.

People don't understand Aussie Humour and if I have a dig at @Bob Nelson 35Whelen he gets, it if it's a local joke etc.
Some of what we go on with you might not get.

negotiations are usually conducted to conclude a deal. Yes? What type of negotiations can a free prostitute conduct? Why is this clown interested in the number of negotiations of this esteemed young lady?
the humor is in the ambiguity created by the use of "free" and "negotiate much."

What’s the torque on an oil pan drain plug supposed to be? Asking for a friend!View attachment 452486
Ah yes, the venerable oil pan drain plug.
My stepdad liked a service station so took their car there to have oil changes etc. Well, 300 lb Tiny that worked there just knew all oil drain plugs had to be securely tightened so stripped three out making sure. Of course they were all faulty or would not have stripped from using a 3 foot cheater pipe on the wrench. Stepdad asked me about ways to keep this from happening without taking the car somewhere else.
Break his arm?
Make him pay for a new oil pan at every oil change?
Use a stun gun on him when the plug was tight enough?

The Brits have a much easier way with being joked. If the same thing was tried on an American the jokester would risk being punched.
I think americans are meaner with their practical jokes.
If one dishonors the Queen of England they risk a strong rebuke.
Americans feel no restraint at saying what they feel about the President or anybody else. (Sometimes deserved.) The office should be respected even if the person in it is not worthy of respect.

All I can tell you for sure is that the squeegee isn’t free. Maybe should have put this one in the electric car thread. . .
