Obsession with tactical rifles & equipment

For me this is pretty simple. Shall not be infringed. We already have over 20k laws across the US restricting this! In the Revolutionary war there were over 600 private ships used for battle against the British. Want a tactical firearm? Great! Want a traditional hunting firearm? Great! Get familiar with how to use them, teach others around you that are willing how to use them, and be ready to protect you and yours when the time comes.

Seeing gun owners talking about “reasonable capacity” and other anti-gun terms is disheartening a lot more so than if someone at the range next to me has a blued or a cerakoted firearm. What capacity is “reasonable”? Seems to depend on the situation. Better to have and not need…. Whether at the LGS or the range, I welcome all of them, and believe that an armed society is a polite society.

I am sad to see less availability for someone to work on my more traditional firearms, or specific shops only being able to offer services on the brands they sell new, but I am hopeful that some younger folks will learn from those with experience on how to work on some of the older equipment from those with experience. Like many other trades struggling to find help right now, I believe some will figure out that a craft like smithing can be lucrative for them if they learn it well.

Pottential for new wildcat!
@merk-hunter
That's fine but just don't try the old trick of calling the 243 a 6x51 it won't work on me.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha

The AR is the most common rifle in America and second most common in the world. The Glock is the most common handgun in the world.

Any man that calls himself a rifleman, should own one and be capable of running it at gunfight speed.

Kids want to emulate their heroes. Their heroes are carrying M4s. It’s a good thing, for kids to want to learn and emulate their heroes.

Frankly, my M4 is a lot more useful and gets a lot more range time than my 458 Lott.

Be careful not to become a fudd. The overwhelming majority of gun owners are not hunters and they are quick to dislike elitists like bird hunters with 100k shotguns that try to speak on gun rights…

The range I'm a member of is at least 86 percent Fudd. It's brutal sometimes. Please don't let that happen to any of you. Beautiful guns have their place and use just like ugly guns. The gun culture can't afford to become divided. All gun lives matter. Cheers.

Fudd ranges go broke and die. Seen it multiple times.

The last one I was a member of had guys that came to the range and didn’t even shoot…just hung out and stood around, occasionally criticizing people for some kind of esoteric safety issues that only existed in their mind. I had to tell one guy to leave the range as he had no gun and wasn’t shooting, but was walking up and down like a range master…when we had no range officers at all.

The present and future is black rifles, 3 gun, IDPA, PRS, and various action pistol disciplines.

Ranges that want to stay relevant are ditching the NRA garbage and hosting useful classes on defensive pistol, carbine, and emergency medicine. Pat Mac, Jeff Gonzales, and so on.

Fudds hate this as it demonstrates how inept they are with firearms after their 1911 chokes for the 87th time.

Haha omg they do that at mine too. Old guys go there to hide from their wives. They shoot a few rounds then sit and read the paper or something.... And don't get me started on the guys with the red range officer hats, they think they're God. A lot of the guys are cool but I'm 39 and I think I'm the youngest member.

Fudds are scaring off the next generation rather than encouraging them

To be clear.....
Anti gun groups want all of your guns....including blued walnut bolt guns.

So you don't like AR15 rifles and muzzle brakes? Maybe those "other" guys don't like your stuff
100%. They want to take them all. I used to have all of the kinds listed in the last few posts until my boating accident. Like I said before, better to have and not need.

Remember that 1776 wasn’t the beginning of the revolution, it was in the bars and churches and basements in the 1760’s and 1770’s before it kicked off officially. You know, all of those places the tyrants wanted to keep closed and keep us out of when they started all that lockdown over a cold BS a couple of years ago!!

Elitism and exclusion are death to the future of hunting. Fewer places to go, more competition, wealthy hunters locking it down…

Its not Africa related, but every American hunter should be following the Wyoming Corner Crossing case. It’s literally one rich A hole blocking American Citizens from accessing public land so that he and his buddies have private elk hunting…on public land. He even got the local police to criminally charge the hunters on public land.

Weird how some people make this discussion into an issue of class. Am I an elitist because I own, shoot and enjoy SxS shotguns and traditional bolt rifles? I don't think so. I guess you could say that I am a 'fudd', or to be polite, a classicist... one who likes classics. I don't shoot muzzleloaders or bows either, but I am fine with those who do.

On the subject of access to public land, I fully support the public's right to access public land and hope that we see more progress in securing these rights.

Not at all Mike. Enjoying certain types of guns doesn't make one an elitist or a Fudd.

Typically what I and most people see as Fudd behavior is people that are ok with banning semi auto, "scary" looking guns because they feel no one needs them to hunt and the only legal guns should be traditional hunting guns.

They feel this is justified because they think no one needs an AR or something. Realistically no one needs 75 percent of the stuff they have. No one needs a boat, motorcycle, rolex etc. But at least in America we don't have to have a need to have something.

Wanting it is enough if it's your hobby and you enjoy it. What they fail to realize is is that anti gun people want them all gone. Going after the scary ones first is easy. Then they will come for the SxSs and bolt guns.

I have several black rifles and some nice blue/ walnut as well and appreciate both. They each have their uses and their place. All guns need to be protected. If the clowns get an inch they will take a mile.

Cheers

I have more then a few AR rifles
Some are chambered in cartridges that are flat out fun especially suppressed. I also love to use the AR shooting predator and prairie dogs.
BTW......the same people that want to take away your rights want to keep you from hunting...
Especially African hunting
Giving up rights is never the answer and creating new or more gun laws will never stop evil.

Age 39 you say? Give it a decade and you’ll have new found respect of those old guys hiding from their wives at the gun club. They’ve learned something valuable that you’ll only learn through more experience.

Duck and cover, boys! And buy them furs.

I've been married twice. Divorced the first, buried the second. I totally understand hiding from the old lady, but if you're gunna hide at the range why not shoot while you're there?

It's a perishable skill after all.

Cheers

People are misunderstanding the desire to segregate by interest group versus oppression of rights.

You can be pro-2nd amendment in its most conservative interpretation, fighting for every lawful US citizens right to keep and bear arms.

Yet you can also say I don’t want bubbas playing war at my hunt club. I also don’t want them showing up in camo for a hunt that demands tweed.

Equal rights under the law doesn’t equate to being forced to allow any behavior or interest group to join a private club. This is a simple truth. You wear a ball cap backwards or show exposed tattoos at Augusta they’ll escort you from the premises. Private clubs, private rules.

I find a lot of people that call people “fudds” really mean they want to change rules of decorum to their style, rather than having any actual evidence someone is anti-2nd amendment.

Own any weapon you want that is legal and use it at any club that will take you as a member that invites that type of gun for hunting or shooting purposes.

I must be lucky
My wife loves the range and shoots as much as I do

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
