Obsessed With Ruger Rifles Especially #1s

I share your enthusiasm, especially for the #1.

I currently own them in 35 Whelen, 9.3x62, and 375 H&H, the grand overlap....

I was dying when the 458 WM was for sale here a week or so ago. Just couldn't do it with some deposits on the books.
I would definitely hold out for a 450/400NE;)

I have a Hamilton Bowen 470 NE No.1. That and a 300 Win Mag, 416 Remington, 416 Rigby and 458 Win Mag.
Would love to see a picture of that 470 NE

There’s three rifles that I really regret selling/trading and two of them were Rugers...a #1B in .270 and a 77 in .22-250. Both red pads. The third was my S&W 1500 in 7mm Rem Mag. I currently own a Ruger American in .223 and an American Rimfire in .22lr. Good guns but nothing like the others.

I wonder if they ever made that 450/400 in the stainless version?
I don't think they ever did. I think there was a 405 Winchester stainless.

Its nice to know that I am not the only one that likes and collects the Ruger No 1. Until a few years ago I only had two, a 243 Win and a 45-70, which reintroduced me to the real enjoyment of hunting. Getting in closer especially with moose and black bear. Then when I was looking for a 375 H&H in a No 1, for my southpaw son to use on an African trip, I came across a No 1 treasure trove that I couldn't refuse. Now the proud owner of the following No 1 rifles, all walnut and blued.

243 Win
6.5 Creedmore
303 British
300 H&H
35 Whelen
9.3x74R
375 H&H
405 Win
416 Rem
416 Rigby
404 Jeffrey
450/400
45-70 Govt
458 Win Mag
458 Lott
450 Nitro Express

They are hard to find outside of the USA so I think its like hunting, don't turn down the opportunity when it appears. I guess the fight starts when I kick off.

There's a 300 H&H for sale on GB: https://www.gunbroker.com/item/868623284

Question for anyone who owns a No 1 RSI: I like the look of these guns, but the short barrel is a bit of a concern. I've seen these in 270 and 30-06 lately and can't imagine the noise out of a 20 inch barrel, let along the performance.

Neil,

You win. That's an unbelievable collection of highly desirable calibers. I am officially jealous. Especially about the 404J and 9.3x74R. Congratulations sir. Just freaking awesome.......

Bonk: It was quite an opportunity, a fellow wanted some cattle and needed the cash, I had the cattle and wanted his guns. Kind of like the old west but no shots were fired.

The short barrels are a non issue for me. I have as short as 16.5" on a 308 Win to 21.25" on a 338 RUM with acceptable to me performance loss. No brake no blast even on the shorter barrels.

He who has the most #1s wins! You win sir! Are any of yours stainless?

I wasn't aware of a Ruger No 1 RSI in 338 RUM. I am assuming it is some other make/model, but the report must be quite loud.

from what I found on a Ruger website it should be 1994

Neil
How does that 404 feel with regards to recoil. Wondering how much that rifle weighs? It probably has the heavy barrel like my 375 H&H and similar to the 458 Lott I had
