I am interested in purchasing a nightforce NX8 parallex is factory set at 125m, I would like to have it factory set at about 80m.

Does anyone know if Nightforce will do this and length of time for delvery. Time is important.

Hey since you are a good guy I called Nightforce customer service for you.
1. NX8 riflescope parallex is indeed factory set at 125m
2. NX8 parallex is NOT adjustable by factory.

I have an NX8 and while you have your reason for asking this question...
A. This is first focal plane scope, F1. The reticle crosshairs and dot increase in thickness as the magnification increases.
B. Because of it being an F1 scope, they are not great target scopes.
C. While not the best for benchrest accuracy due to very thick crosshairs and dot at 8x, they are a great tactical or dangerous "in your face" bad guy/critter optic!
D. For big, angry, in your face critters, I don't think the difference in parallex will matter much. Even with a parallex difference because of hasty rifle mounting in dangerous situations, the accuracy (crosshairs to point of impact) will probably be as good as most double rifles!

The above stated, my NX8 turret caps (model C601 NX8 - 1-8x24mm F1 - FC-MOA - .5 MOA - Capped Elevation) are larger and the overwidth of the turrets is wider than my Nightforce NX 1-4x scopes, and Leupold 1-6x. The width requires the scope be mounted higher for the bolt handle with fingers or palm operating it to clear.

I have that rifle in .416 Rigby and also that scope. The tube is too short to mount in typical quick release rings. I am working on how to make a Pic rail attach with quick release. German claw mounts welded to the bottom of the rail are looking like the best/only option so far. Perhaps one of the front mounts that looks like a diving board will work? Interested in hearing if anyone has found a good QR mount for this scope.

on this rifle, the bolt handle was hitting a Swaro EE 1 - 6, the NF 1-8 is smaller in diameter at the rear than the Swaro. I have no issue the windage turret on my short action bolt rifle and use it in following wounded critters in our thorn brush.

The scope and especially lit red dot reticle at 1x is outstanding for up close in the brush. The parallax is not an issue. Sure would be nice to find a way to mount it on a magnum length Mauser action.

When practicing operating the bolt, in this case of a Winchester Classic CRF Model 70 custom by David Christman with a straight bolt handle in 416 Rem, the knurled windage cap was aggravating my fingertips. That was using an open palm rather than grabbing the bolt knob with my fingers.

@Tex .416 Below is a photo of my aforementioned Christman Custom M70 with the NX8 1-8x mounted in low Talley rings. It could be mounted a half inch aft for perfect eye relief. As it is mounted, a slight shadow is starting around the outside of the viewing lens. Not anything to worry about on 1x.

When I increase to 8x the shadow grows! No worries since 8x is not a brush magnification. At 4x the scope in present mount is acceptable. That stated, an extended "diving board" front ring would be great!

That fine rifle deserves Recknagel/EAW mounts. I have them on a couple rifles and other than a true custom system, I think they are the best available.

the Heym Martini receiver is approximately 0.625" longer than a Model 70 .375 H&H receiver. The NF 1-8 has enough tube length to fit on the M70. Here is the NF pulled off another rifle and just sitting atop the M70, 80's vintage, and Heym for some photos. Note, the yellow lines are the outer limits of the tube. The scope front piece forward of the yellow line is the screw ring to tighten down the front glass and should not be in a ring. These are Tally mounts on the M70.

I have been working on mounting the NF 1-8 on a Dumoulin Imperial Magnum and its square bridges are just a bit longer than the Heym. In tinkering taking these photos, I am going to try some Alaska Arms rings and they just might work on the Heym with the NF 1-8. Please standby.

Here is the M70 on top and the Heym on the bottom. The rear mounts, front edges, are aligned. So, this view shows the extra length of the Heym receiver in .416 Rigby compared to the M70 .375 H&H. The yellow line is on the front edge of the mount for each.

Ok Lon,

I went and mounted the combo this evening and the Alaska Arms 0.6" rings made for the Heym Martini work with the Nightforce NX8 1-8x.

There is absolutely no room to move it forward or back. First, I tried some Alaska Arms 0.5" rings, which will work, but which are tight. The 0.6"'s extra height provides ample clearance. Photos of clearance are below. Go with the 0.6" height.

Here is the final result. These are not glamour shots as this kind of work happens outside in the tool shed due to working with degreasing solvent and a fan, but you said your are in a hurry and thought these would give you a look at least one workable setup.

(Yes, I know the levers should be a 12 o'clock to use the QR feature, but for now to do load work with the rifle, I put them in a non-QR setup and torqued correctly in this position. Changing the settings is easy enough.) btw - the instructions are backwards. There is a set screw which is in the rear of the base of the ring, not the front of the base as mentioned in the instructions. That mistake in the instructions wasted several minutes looking that issue over.

The final result -

Side angle view of bolt clearance well away from the scope with a finger for scale reference.

Plenty of room for palming the bolt handle.

Plenty of clearance to grab it from above.

The rear ring is at the absolute limit with no spare room on the tube.

Forward ring is at its limit on the tube, but it does fit.

Will add a footnote, the Alaska Arms rings came with nice layer of protective coating of some sort. Make sure to take the screws out and then use a degreasing solvent such as acetone or Gun Scrubber on the rings and screws. The inside of the ring surfaces needed rubbing with a Scotch Brite pad and spraying a few times to really remove all of the protective coating. After everything is mounted, then apply some protectant to the outside of the rings to prevent rust. I like Hornady One Shot case lube as it can be sprayed on all surfaces and does not penetrate or discolor wood.

I’d ask them if they can build mounts for you. They make the best rings for a Ruger integral mount out there.

Wow I am overwhelmed at all of the help. At this stage getting around is a bit of a problem. Being in Zimbabwe makes everything ten times worse. So here is where we are at.

RIFLE: Heym Martini Mag Mauser Express

BASES: Alaska Arms

RINGS: Alaska Arms .06 Height 12 o clock position.

SCOPE: NX8 or ?

EAW would be my first choice, but getting all of the correct parts then getting everything properly mounted is not something I cannot do from my horizontal living room provisional work shop and I only know of one Zimbabwe gunsmith that might be competent to expertly mt. EAW.

This rifle will professionally used mostly for hippo/croc possible limited plains game (for baits). At times clients may be using.

Side note: elephant hunter at the lodge last night. Leopard killed a fisherman's dog on the beach last night. It then jumped the fence into our yard. Stayed in one of flower beds fow awhile then jumped the fence again and left if we have time we will try to find what he did with the dog.

The leopard must have been watching our ridgebacks and Jack Russels just meters from where we dined with our guest “Mark”.
