New Westley Richards 470NE on order, who wants to hear about it?

Well, I have more photos to share. These just came in from Trigger, and they show the rifle in the white, with the splinter forend showing the horn tip, the scroll back action, the red rubber pad, and the wood...... have to say I'm pretty happy about how this is shaping up!
Never seen a horn tip on a double rifle forend before but I must say that it does look great!

Thank you, I appreciate the support.

The visit was really way beyond my expectations.

I didn't want to just go around snapping photos all over the place, but I did take a few. You might enjoy this one from the stocking shop: I loved seeing the Old School pinups above the work bench. Marilyn and Sophia. Classic.

That photo is classic.

Thank you. You are not wrong at all, she is my first wife and my last girlfriend, we're at 36 years and going.

Btw I arranged for her to have a "Bespoke Perfume Experience" at Floris on German Street while we were in London. They spent 3 hours and custom designed a perfume for her. You get to name it, they write the formula in their book, and you go home with a bottle of the perfume. You can order more any time, but they will never sell it to anyone else, or even disclose the contents.

We also made a trip to Patrick Mavros where she found lots of things she loved, and she shopped at Fortnum and Mason's and Harrods and several other small boutiques.

All of the above plus some of the wonderful meals we had at great London restaurants ~may~ have perhaps contributed to her great mood when it was time to make a double rifle decision......
Brilliant move, romancing your wife! And after 36 years, that is beautifully special.

@towserthemouser , thank you for sharing the journey with WR. Reading your account of the 7 hours you and your bride spent at Westley Richards, reminds me of a description of a fine meal, with a Michelin chef, enjoyed over many hours of sensual pleasure.
Each course brings more delight.

Now we just need fine Cognac and a cigar!
Bravo.

Don't threaten me with a good time!

That is going to be an incredible rifle! I can't wait to see your pictures after metal finishing. Beautiful lines!

Maaaannn.... I always wanted one of those maglite holders. I used to see them in the late 90s catalog - did they make you one recently?
Haven't got down to leather items yet; I think I'll speak with the leather crew when we go back for stock fitting. Maybe a sling, a shooting belt, etc. What am I missing?

Thank you, I agree with you, it just looks balanced. I can tell you from handling some of their rifles on our visit that they are wonderful to hold and they point like a dream.

You need the WR wool flat cap

I am certain that it took a lot of time to relay all the fantastic details of your journey to date. We have all appreciated the passion and character with which you have described it and are thus also able to enjoy it by proxy! Congrats on a well deserved achievement, made all the more sweet by having your wife alongside in support!

I’m reading a book written by Don Currie (Gunfitting achieving the ideal fit for game and Clay Shot)

The book focuses on shotgunning, not DR fitting. But the level of knowledge and skill for the top tier Gunfitters is impressive. I’m learning how little I know and now have a lot more excuses for my missing.

My point is. Going through the whole selection, build and fitting would be quite an experience and add value to the purchase.

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John [redacted]

Out of all the different color variations of Impala the black Impala just stands out with its beautiful pitch black hide.

Impala is one of the animals you will see all over Africa.
You can see them in herds of a 100 plus together.

This excellent ram was taken with one of our previous client this past season.
