New USA requirements in addition to the form 4457

You have to remember one big thing. The person you deal with at the airport or other office is NOT the person you saw back home or talked to on the phone. You can not take anything they tell you at face value, because they don't know jack. Go by whats written on the website and print out anything you can to back up whats written there to show the power hungry a hole you may encounter at the airport.

I may get laughed out of his office tomorrow when I go down to my local CBP office and ask for a 4457 for my ammo but 15 minutes with him may save me from having to pay duty or having $200-$300 worth of ammo confiscated when I return.

Yep, I am going down in the morning to get the 4457 for my ammo that I am taking.

I almost feel like taking a sharpie and numbering the rounds 1-60.

I just posted this on another thread. Myself and 3 of my friends just returned from SA a week ago today. Our point of entry was JFK. We did the same as always, went to CBP, produced our 4457's for our rifles, and were on our way. They asked if our ammunition was in locked boxes and that, it was. We weren't asked to open the ammo boxes. The whole process for the four of us, and 6 guns took about 15 minutes. It went smooth as silk. Kevin

This is getting beyond ridiculous. Luckily I think I still have my receipts for the ammo.

I guess we will need a 4457 for camouflage next.

Aw, Hell. I'm in trouble with needing a 4457 for ammo as mine are all reloads.

Should be no problem, just declare as noted on case heads, winchester, remington, etc., pack in separated plastic 20 round packs, then note on 4457, or do not return with any since returning with ammo to be noted on 4457.

How long will it take CBP to get tired of giving out 4457 for ammo and personal items......
Now they will have to work for a living..... Not good for them....

Just got an email from a friend going to RSA in July. Had to go to CBP to get another 4457 for a different rifle and they asked when he was going, he said July. They said, well the new rules may be in place by then so keep checking the CBP website. They will have this in place eventually.

This is just plain stupid. I don't know what we will need before I leave Robert as far as the ammo goes. Please keep us all informed.

Bob I may be breaking protocol on this thread but you would be the man to know . What effect will SAA and Emirates decision Not to ship Hunting trophies have on the hunters ability to ship is or her trophies from Africa . I see that there is pressure on Delta from anti hunting group on social media to do like wise ship trophies

You sound as worried as I am. I emailed Bob last night he didn't seem to concerned. Don't forget there are lot's of private cargo companies that I am sure would love to have the business that the commercial airlines are giving up in the name of anti hunting pressure. I m concerned if they go after companies that ship by sea. It's human nature that someone will jump on the money train and provide a service.

I just returned from my safari in SA and there were no problems. When I arrived back into the US there were no questions asked about ammo and all they did was to check the serial number on my rifle, they didn't even go into my carry on or large duffel. This was through Dulles in Washington.

When I asked my local customs officer about a 4457 about my ammo a month ago he just laughed and said that it wasn't needed.

But rules and regulations change by the minute.
