New to me Ruger No. 1 S in .35 Whelen!

2 years later and I still have it!! Amazing!!
@sestoppelman
Scott have you loaded it properly yet.
Try Speers 250gr load.
It tried the Sierra load of 60gn of CFE223 ( I did work up to it from 66gn) and it gave 2,900fps and was extremely accurate.

Try working up to 63gn of H4350 with Woodleigh 310gn RNSP and a drop tube for 2,455fps, mild pressure and clover leaf groups.
They will let you know you are alive. Stout but not vicious recoil.

I found better accuracy with other powders so havent pushed it that high with CFE, but IIRC I got it up around 65 grs or so.

What where you using the 65gn load on.
II get fantastic accuracy with CFE223.
The old 250gr Hornady round nose and 66gn gives me 2,700fps and clover leaf groups.
Next time I go to the range I'm going to fire one shot of each load to see the group.
225gn Woodleigh RNSP & PPSP ,225gn accubond, 225gn Sierra game king, 250gn Woodleigh PPSP and Hornady spire point and round nose as well as 250gn speer. Throw in the 275gn Woodleigh PPSP and 310gn Woodleigh RNSP.
Should be an interesting 100yds group.
Yes I do love doing stupid stuff like that just because.

Not really Bob, I once shot a 235gr Speer, a 270gr Hornaday Spire point, a 300gr Hornaday RN, & a 300gr Hornaday Solid, into a 2” group at 100yds with my .375 just to see how they all grouped. Fun stuff.

250 Speer. Varget and 4064 were good. I also had some good shooting with 225 Sierra's and AA2700., but that powder didnt like the 250 Hornady RN at all.
Every barrel is different and has its likes and dislikes.

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary
