I share your affinity for the .35 caliber cartridges, BUT the .25 cal's are the slightly addled redheaded step-child that watches goldfish swim in a bowl while the other kids are out playing baseball.

Before that horrible little 243 was flogged to death with Winchester's bullshit advertising the 25s ruled the roost.
The little 25-20 was an ideal small game round and in a pinch could be used in deer as many will tell you.
The 25-35 with a nice 117rnsp took a swag load of deer no problems.
The little 250 Savage the first cartridge to reach 3,000 fps and an ideal Varmit/ medium gam round.
The 257 Roberts and 25-06 had a bit of trouble at birth due to the powders of the time. When H4831 came along it was a whole new ball game and with the newer powders they are better again.
Nothing wrong with a 100 gn bullet at 3,200 fps in the Roberts and 3,400+ on the 25-06
Put a 117-120 grain in either at 2,900 to 3,100 fps and you have a fine medium/ bigger game rifle.
In the 25-06 a 75-80 grainers at over 3,600 fps will reach way out yonder and smack small critters.
The 257 Weatherby is the real screamer and that good il boy Roy Weatherby even shot hissed a rhino with one. Something I wouldn't try. I ain't that silly.
The 25s only watch the gold fish because people were brainwashed with bullshit about the 6 mm's and people believed it
Those of us in the know will use the might of the 25 over the 6 Mills any day.
Dang even the little 250 Savage was the darling of benchrest shooters at one time.
I will stick with my 25 cal because I know it works and works well

Bob, don't know why you are comparing the .25's to the 6mm's... they are both equally anemic and pointless calibers... every adult starts their shooting at 6.5mm.

I have seen the light but not the 6.5 dull glow.
I found the bright light of the 25 out shines that of others.
If'n I need a brighter light than the 25 I turn on the switch and bring out the brightest biggest light I have. The mighty Whelen.
That was invented by god hissef the great colonel Townsend Whelen.
So once again thank you for your prayers but I will stick with my 25 and 35 sins.
Both the great colonel and Mr Weatherby will guide me on the path of ballistic righteousness as I have seen the light of enlightenment.

There is a couple on GB right now and were some last week too. I think Ruger may have made another run of them.
Prices seem to be a little lower, besides the one above that the dummies keep running up despite the fact there are others for a BUYNOW of less.
In fact I just snagged one myself, yes, just a moment ago!
Wont have it home for at least a month, going to mail payment and then there is the 10 business day wait etc.

I notice you arent bragging about the nice figure in the butt stock! A recent run of No.1's in .275 Rigby all had gorgeous wood, not so the African, at least in Whelen.

Every one I have seen looks like a hunk of lumber from Lowes hardware! The one I snagged last night has the slightest bit of grain variation, more than others I have seen , but it certainly wont win any beauty prizes!

Yes the wood is fairly plain on this gun, but honestly it isn't bad. I do have rifles with nicer wood and while I really appreciate nice walnut they really do not shoot any better than the ones I own with plain stocks.

I hear you though, for this to be one of Rugers higher end models it would have been nice if they had chosen a higher grade if walnut.

Well finally its home! More than two weeks. They called Friday night and said pick yesterday, got there and power was out due to a 3 day windstorm, so the shop was closed. Manager came out and we talked for a minute and then it went south from there, because I asked why no phone call or anything, and being a nearly hour round trip to the shop sort of torqued me off too, he got mad, called me a jerk, not much argument there, and then told me to find another FFL for future transfers, well Okay then.
There is another shop I deal with about a mile closer so thats where I go from now on I guess.

Anyway I went over today after verifying they were open and picked it up, being Sunday the manager was off so no more sparks to be ignited!
Rifle looks good, I wasted no time putting a good old Redfield scope on it. Why? Because I like old Redfield's, good scopes.

Butt stock has a tiny bit of less than straight 2x6 type figure on one side at least, the other plain as most I have seen. Hope to get it shooting this week.
