Hunting reports
Africa
1
I just got back from South Africa and it was amazing! I've read several threads on here before I left, and thought it's probably time to join, as I think I'll be going back!

Welcome aboard!

Welcome to AH Cam Moon! Please share your time in Africa with us by posting a hunt report. Glad to hear that you are already looking at going back but not surprised!

I will definitely write something up when I get a bit of time. But it's hunting season here at home now! lol

Oh, and thanks to all for the welcome wishes!

Welcome to AH.
Pay those taxes after the season is done.
Good luck.

Show us how your first Africa trip went! I’d enjoy a report. And welcome to AH!

Welcome to AH, please post a hunting report when you get a chance.

Hi Cam, welcome to AH !

What are you looking for as far as a "report"? Basically a diary of my trip?
I have nothing but good to say so far, but TBH I'm a little worried about my mounts. I chose to have them done in SA rather than being shipped home (Alberta Canada) and done here. Yes, I will admit that cost was a major factor in that decision. I've read a lot of people's comments on here recommending against that, and saying the price difference isn't that much. But they are from the US. Here in Alberta the price difference was huge! Also wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with the taxidermist in SA that is going to be doing the work? (Umlindi)

Welcome from a fellow Albertan, I've had my taxidermy from 2 safaris done (23 critters) in SA and don't have any issues with the work done. However I did receive a nyala that wasn't mine. My Zambia animals are coming home to be done. Never used your specific taxidermist though.
Looking forward to your report.

Welcome aboard Cam. To answer your question re. Taxidermy costs, while the work is cheaper the transportation of the finished mounts can be quite expensive. So long as you have that factored in you should be in good shape.

My understanding is that almost always any NON-finished product needs reinspected and "disinfected" prior to being delivered to a taxidermist here. By the time I pay for dip and pack in Africa, airfreight to Alberta, reinspection/disinfection, and get it to a local taxidermist, the difference in cost between that and having completed work shipped would be minimal. I'm not sure if that's correct or not, but it was the information I was given. I'm very open to hearing other's opinions/suggestions, as I may end up doing things differently next time.

Welcome to AH Cam!

Where did you have yours done?

Welcome to this great forum. Please post your adventures.

My animals from the Eastern Cape were done at Splitting Image in Port Elizabeth. I've heard good and bad but if you keep on top of them requesting updates and pictures you shouldn't have any issues. My outfitter was very proactive as well visiting the taxidermist regularly and sending me updates. Good luck.

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig
