Had a great day today in preparation for my much anticipated tour to Namibia. The morning was spent packing, weighing, and repacking. The afternoon was jitters therapy with a few hours at the reloading bench. I don't know what I was thinking when I did my export permits many months previous. I somehow doubt I could possibly shoot the 120 rounds. I guess better too many than short - right?

Maybe it's the gleam of newly polished brass or maybe dreaming about a Leopard, in any event the day slipped away quickly.
I think it's gonna seem like a long week waiting for Friday! Internet service depending, I will do my best to keep up to date on the hunt. Now if I could only sleep........

When are you going and to what part of the country? I am headed there too next year. I hunted at Eden in 2007 and this will be my second trip to Namibia, same general area, different outfitter. I guarantee you wont use that much ammo even with two rifles! Sure is fun prepping for the trip though right?

I am going to be hunting with Africa Dreams, west and north of the Omitara district this time. From Windhoek it's about half way to Botswana and north a bit. Two years ago I was at Auas Lodge. It was a great place and I had a terrific time. Just couldn't work things out on spots so I chose to mix things up a bit.

As for the Ammo - you are totally right. Last time I shot 11 rounds for 9 trophies. What the hell was I thinking this time? Maybe I will need a hundred rounds at the range first:P Gangster:Yikes.

It is fun prepping. I have to admit, I have had a prepack prep spot for 6 months! Admitting the addiction is half the battle right.

Do you need the trigger locks?

Hope you have a great time, it will be hard to wait to Friday, but worth it! Look forward to the report!

Trigger locks - only in Canada!
Firearms are to be locked or disabled while in transport. Basically all the time - except while hunting.

Thanks reedy0312 - I am looking forward to it!

Hopefully you get to hunt Hartmann's zebra!

Go getum sir! Enjoy the adventure.

Thanks guys. Mountain Zebra are on my list but the'boss' seems to have an aversion to them and giraffe? Don't know if the grief would be worth it.
The white stripes would break up the dark capes on the wildebeeste mounts though - wouldn't it?
I'll give it my all Charlie.

For decorating purposes they are a must. Have to set off those solid animals.

I agree Brickburn - may I quote you when discussing the subject with my wife? FYI - she isn't a great shot!

Sneak up closer

All packed up and ready to go. Scale says my bag is 49.2 lbs . I guess that means I have enough 'essential' stuff! I have a feeling this will be the longest day and a half wait of my life. I hate to wish my life away - but I wish I could go right now.

Maybe you could take a cull gemsbok instead of a zebra. If only to keep the boss happy.

I'll be willing to bet that the airlines scale will put you over 50 lbs.

I did the same thing and my bag came in at 47 lbs on my home scale, the airlines scale said 52 lbs with nothing added except for the luggage tag.

Have a safe trip and good shooting.

Oh great - thanks for the heads up. I like airlines a lot. Especially Air Canada.

Caddman,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I think we all enjoy the anticipation of getting ready for the hunt! We all overpack then rethink it.

The last sleepless night at home is over. Off to the Calgary international for a late afternoon flight to Frankfurt.
Hopefully my PH has narrowed done the search for tracks of Mr. Spots!
With any luck the 'travel to' portion of the adventure will be uneventful!

Best of luck, exciting that you will be hunting Africa very soon!

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
