my first elk

Congratulations! Your family will eat well this winter.

That’s a solid bull. I’ve hunted elk twice in my life and would be VERY happy with that bull. Plus can’t beat the meat. Congrats!

Super bull, well done. Enjoy that meat. It's excellent.

I shot my first one October 1971. Two weeks getting it out with horses. An early snow storm and nasty cold spell delayed me two weeks getting back in for the front quarters. Yours is not a raghorn. Brow tines are too long. Definitely a mature bull. Congratulations. The first one is always the most memorable.

Just thought I'd share my successful hunt. Got drawn for either sex elk in zone 43 here in Saskatchewan…and scored on the opening day of the season, September 15!!!!

It's no trophy specimen, but it's a full grown bull elk and holy smokes I didn't realize just how much meat is on one of these things! I'm a happy (but sore and tired) camper. My family will eat well this winter and I'm so thankful to have been blessed in this way.

225 eld m out of a .300 win mag, 2760 fps, hit him twice at 320 yards (ranged after he was already down haha). The second shot was totally not needed at all but I've heard so many stories about how tough these things can be, he was still standing, so I hit him again. First shot was a broadside chest hit, and man let me tell you there is no better sound than that BOOM….THWACK! Combo that lets you know you made a solid hit. He staggered and wobbled immediately and swung his head back and forth, sort of like I might if I had taken a hard punch and was trying to stay on my feet but very rocked. The second hit he was quartering toward me and I shoulder punched him and he went down like a sack of hammers. The eldm had no trouble smashing and penetrating the shoulder joint and absolutely grenading in the vitals. This combo keeps on proving to be a death ray for deer and now elk as well.

I must say, I haven't had "buck fever" like that since I was a 13 year old on my first whitetail hunt and a saw a spike buck come out of the bush! . I was calm and collected when I pulled the trigger…but once he was down and staying down and I knew this was for real MY FREAKING HANDS WOULDNT STOP SHAKING for like 20 minutes! A good feeling, but very intense. I haven't felt that in a long time, it reminded me I'm alive.

Here's some pics, just an ordinary critter (and we don't get the rocky mountain type monsters here in flatland quite the same) but I'm so happy about it!!!View attachment 635715View attachment 635716
Congrats, Bud!

Congrats from a fellow Sasky boy! You’ve got me beat…I’ve only shot one elk and it was a cow. That’s a bull I’d be thrilled to have!

Congratulations, that’s an excellent elk.

Congrats and thanks for sharing!

Be vigilant on the internet, here is a scammer impersonating a hunter, he is taking posts from elsewhere on the internet to appear knowledgeable about hunting. @Bluebeam has been banned.

Just curious how you determined he was a scammer. Did you contact Calvin from the other forum to see if he is not the same as Bluebeam? The text is exactly the same which immediately throws up a red flag but I suppose it could have been cut and pasted by original author. I suspect something else caught your attention? No need to divulge. Keep your secret weapons a secret. Glad you caught it.

Interesting that Bluebeam was "a new member" who has been hanging out here since May 2022. Odd.

I wondered about him when I saw how long he had been a member and I just noticed him posting. Also limited who could view his account

Interesting. I didn't know that was an option. Not that it matters to me. I have no problem letting people see what I am about. Up to a point of course. It's no one's business what size bra I wear.

Same here. Always a red flag. Especially when they’ve been a member for a while and you just start noticing them running up their post count. I’m sure he was going to post a classified ad soon or PM someone with something to sell.

Interesting he tried doing an intro at this point. Most post an intro pretty quickly after they join if at all. Also interesting that he posted a fake hunt report. When there were no pictures of a person it was pretty much a guarantee it was a scammer trying to build credibility.

Perhaps you need to update your profile? Says you've never hunted Africa but your avatar shows you with a kudu. Scammer alert! :D

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John buzzardhilllabs@hotmail.com
NRA benefactor, areas hunted, add congo, Mozambique3, Zambia2
Out of all the different color variations of Impala the black Impala just stands out with its beautiful pitch black hide.

Impala is one of the animals you will see all over Africa.
You can see them in herds of a 100 plus together.

This excellent ram was taken with one of our previous client this past season.
