Same situation in Africa every day sadlyAgreed. To give you an idea how bad US aid can be, after the earthquake we sent shiploads of bottled water in. This was fine in the immediate aftermath, but we continued to do so, giving it away for free, and drove the only bottling plant in the country out of business.
In a similar vein, the most capable hospital in country was shuttered by free Red Cross clinics. The Red Cross refused to help a for profit hospital.
It’s hard to believe just how bad we are at helping beyond immediate triage in the wake of a disaster.
