Love the 222 Rem

A 222 Remington is a cartridge i seem to have had all my life, old Sako L46, Remington 722, 600 700 i have them all at one time & sold them to get something else, my first center-fire rifle was a REM 722 in 222 i think i was 17 at the time & purchased the rifle during my lunch break at a sports store in George st in Sydney Australia, there were 5 gun shops in that street at that time, i took that rifle home wrapped in brown paper on a bus. I have played with 223, 22 PPC, 22 hornet 220 swift ect. Just got a mint Remington 700 ADL 222 1968 vintage its like new so i am in love again with the 222.
@rdog
I didn't know they made black powder 222 rem or was it a muzzle loader. Ha ha ha ha
I have an almost brand new Remington 788 in 222 that shoots itty bitty groups with 55gn VMAX, Remington Core-Lokt and Sierra btsps. All reloads are with 22.5 grains of adi Benchmark 1,. It is the equivalent of VV130 or133.
Less than half inch all day. The rifle is bedded and floated.

The Triple duece is a great cartridge, got one in a 788 and 722. My first coyote was killed with Dad’s 788.
@Bullthrower338
Cody my first 788 was in 22/250 tht I basically stole for the price $150. That was for the rifle,4 to 12 tasco scope, conetrol mounts 100 rounds of ammo and dies. Sold it after it started grouping inch and a half groups.
Fast forward 40 years and my next 788 is a 222 Remington that cost me $ 350 with mounts and no scope.

45 years ago, as soon as I had an adequate deer/elk/moose rifle, my next purchase at 18 years of age was a small game/varmint rifle. Remington 700 in .222. I've owned at least one rifle in that chambering ever since. Wonderful for long walks after jack rabbits ( hares) fox, coyote, beaver, and shot hundreds of ground squirrels and crows. I replaced that rifle with a couple of nicer Sako L461 rifles, and still have one of those, a heavy barrel "varmint" version that is superbly accurate. Have a nice light and handy Anschutz sporter too. And a Brno ZKK 601 with the pop up peep sight and single set trigger. It has Mauser type controlled round feed for peace of mind while hunting dangerous varmints ;-) For a while I had a Heym BBF in 16/.222 which was a great gun for small game in the bush or for shooting beavers. Our province recently made hunting deer and even elk, bear and moose legal with a .222. Doubt I'll use mine for that purpose, but I'll always have a .222 in my rack.

The 222 was my grandfather's favorite round. He had a Remington, not sure what model, sadly I did not get this rifle. I shot my first deer with it. I did however inherit his Savage 99 in 250-3000. That rifle is a tack driver and is so balanced offhand.

Me too I own 2 rifles chambered in 222 Rem

My first centerfire rifle purchase was a used Remington 700 BDL in .222 Remington. It had a Weaver K3 scope on it. I paid $170.00 for it in 1974. I worked sacking groceries that Summer, earned my own money, and my father let me purchase it from a local department store. Great cartridge, and very accurate.

You may have lost out on the sentimental 222 but you ended up with a far better rifle and a more practical caliber.

Don’t ever foo foo the .250-300 or the Savage 99, they are both great.

I really loved my Tikka 222 with a Pecar 6 power (fixed).
I shot competitions with it and all sorts of feral animals.
Gave it to my son as I have my Sako 22/250.

My 222 is the rifle I use for the majority of my safari practice. It’s a full size rifle with a full size bang without the recoil of the Lott or the Jeffrey or the H&H. Shots are $2 a piece instead of $10 to $12

@Flipper Dude
My 222 cost less than 60 cents a shot using 55gn Remington corelock $38/100, ADI benchmark 1 22.5 grains $ 60/ pound and Remington small rifle benchrest primers $9/100.
Works out some cheap shooting.
My 22 K Hornet is even cheaper.

Shot this beautiful Egyptian Duck today with a Sako in 222 Rem:)

Range report (sort of)

Had the Mannlicher out for a few days this week. Targeting Muntjac but didn't see any so enjoyed knocking some rabbits over.. Pretty much point and shoot from 22 to 220 yards
