Lightweight Ammo Case For Flying

I use a cheap Flambeau pistol case such as :

It will hold 4 - 40 round plastic cartridge boxes. My last trip I was able to take 64 rounds total (375 & 500) and come it under the 11lb limit INCLUDING the case..

I put locks on it, have it weighed at UPS and stuff it into my gear bag. I have had no issues Flying KLM and Air France.

11 KG of ammo looks like

~140 rounds of 286 gr 9.3x62
~125 or 130 rounds of 375 H&H
~100 rds of 404 Jeffery

with a 50-round limit by cartridge, it is difficult to get overweight on ammo, even if you bring 2 rifles.

Qatar weighed my ammo at each location. Coming and going. And they included the pelican case. Even though I had their rules stating otherwise.

I planned for ignorant employees and kept total weight under 11.

Harbor Freight has Apache cases that are well made, reasonably priced and lighter than the Pelican cases. I've used mine on three hunts and another one next month. No issues.
This.

I wouldn't trust a $$$ rifle in an Apache case (though it would probably be fine) but for ammo or smaller items like scopes and cameras they are perfect, including the benefit of weight savings.

If there are two of you flying, you’re both allowed a container of ammo up to the 11lb limit for a total of 22lbs as long as you have two containers. Is there a reason you’re trying to limit yourself to only one case with ammo?

Emirates, Qatar, Air France and Airlink weighed ammo case. Never carried any over .30 cal and kept the total weight at or below 5k.

I have the HF Apache rifle case and it it built every bit as good as the vast majority of rifle cases out there. I like to purchase name brand items when I can but it is getting to the point that you are paying twice the amount just for that name..

On my last trip I watched my Apache case with rifle get dropped at least a half dozen times. For some reason it was always on the top pile of cases when they went to move things from one spot to another. It came through without even a scratch and my rifle and optics came through with flying colors.

11kg is +24lbs. You are probably correct in your cartridge count if that was the rules but it's not.

It is 5 kg or 11 lbs

Not 11 kg

I have Pelican's 1200 and 1300, plus a couple Apache cases. When Harbor Freight has them on sale, the Apache's are a bargain for a quality case. However, the small Apache (1800) is too small and the medium too big (2800).

I did the math right, just used the wrong units.

11 lbs = 77K grains
77k gr/545 gr = 141.2844 cartridges for 9.3x62, etc

Not quite; you didn't weigh the plastic boxes that your 141 9,3x62 cartridges must travel in. I'm assuming 20-round plastic boxes just because it's the most convenient. In any case you'll be leaving the 375 and 404 home.
