Leopard Optics

180 pounds max with thins skin vs thick skin and thousands of pounds. No one here is applying the same logic to hunting any of those
The only people not are the classic hunters on this board.

Well I bought a z6i 2-12 50mm Swarovski because it has really good low light characteristics and I figured I was most likely to get a shot at down or dusk. So naturally I shot my leopard at 2:04pm in broad daylight. It was on a 300 win mag
I took a 7 SAW on an antelope hunt. DOPE cards LRF the whole deal. Planning on doing some real fancy long range work. I shot my antelope at 30 yards :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: I even have my dope card on my arm in the picture. It never fails. Ha ha

That’s an easy one my man. Use a 4” suppressor. Wouldn’t make hearing safe, but way less than your 308 unsuppressed. Also would be the same length barrel as yours. Easy.

Also, were you getting 3000 fps from a 180gr bullet in 30cal?
Where am I getting 3000 fps from a 180gr bullet in a 30cal? Haha are you serious?

I might take a 308 for the job. I have a 300 Norma barrel for that same rifle but I don't know that it would be a whole lot less blast
Out of curiosity what would peoples opinions be on a 25/06 with a propper bullet of course. I do have my dad's 25/06 and I might just take it, if the old quarter bore is adequate for cat hunting?
I think it would be great with the right bullet. My PH's very young son killed his first leopard with his father acting as PH with a .22 WinMag. Dad had his trusty .470 K Gun along had a follow-up been required. I have always thought my R8 with .257 WM barrel would be a great leopard slayer. It shoots the 120 gr partition into tiny cloverleafs. All that said, I likely would bring a .30.

Yeah. Very. Please show me.

The hunter has not stated what country on the continent of Africa he is going to be hunting in. Zimbabwe a suppressor is illegal.

Trijicon AccuPower 2.5-10x56. This is one of the best scopes I have ever used for limited visibility. Unfortunately, Trijicon stopped making it. However, it can still be found on Amazon, Gun Broker and Eurooptic.

My night critter rig is a Tikka "Boar Hunter" 30-06 with this scope on it. I have shot a lot of pigs and other critters at night and never needed the additional illumination from the light I have mounted to the scope. I shot a bushpig at 60 yards on a very dark night using this rig.

Safe hunting

Daisy seems a bit delusional. Pay no mind

The man that hunts cants for a living chimes in and he has no interest in what you say haha
Cheers Lon

Yeah. Very. Please show me.

I said I would use 30-06 or 300win. 180gr partions at 2850 in the ‘06 and 3050fps in the win mag. So yes near 3000fps for both.

Don’t worry about responding I’m done talking to you hahah

Yeah I'm going back to Zimbabwe with Dalton &York.
I am sure they will appreciate your go straight to prison silencers. As will as the National Parks ranger. Of course some safari operators do operate illegally. I find that a #1 company like D&C would allow.

Excuse me not D&C, D&Y #1 company!

So you change to sound out of barrel when the ballistics goes out the window? Ha

A leopard is not harder to kill than a black bear with good shot placement on bait and generally the distances and light situation is similar.
So whatever you feel adequate for black bear is good to go for leopard.
In my case it's a .35 Remington Marlin with an illuminated Vortex 1-4 x 24 with 200 grain softs mainly because of maneuverability in tight spaces.
Your PH more than likely will be having a double shotgun loaded with buckshot in the blind.

What? Pour another glass of whiskey my friend.
No need for the ad hominem stuff. It’s just fun talking about ballistics for me. We are all on same team.

I just see trends and like to discuss the opposite side. I don’t think any of it is bad or wrong. I just like modern ballistics and suppressors. But I still use my 30/06 all the time too.

I just bought an Uberti Courtney stalking rifle in 45/70. I'm not a huge fan of single shot rifles for DG but in the case of a leopard blind it would probably be all right. If there is any question about the shot I'm switching to my double before we go follow up anyway. I had a discussion with York on our last hunt about how they handle that very situation and I was very impressed with their system for dealing with that. I would feel comfortable in the stack with York Zvito and Sunny boy. Really a pretty neat method that the 3 of them use, I mean nobody wants to have to go after a wounded cat, but if you are a PH I assume you are going to run into that situation occasionally.

What’s wrong with another glass! Haha all good my friend

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
