Jim Green Boots Report

I wore my new Jim Green Ranger boots today for the first time. I’m impressed. Very comfortable out of the box. Huge toe boxes which helps prevent toe pinch. Time will tell if they are keepers.

Great boots. I have 2 on the Barefoot last. Zero drop and wider toe box. Very high quality and fantastic price.

These look good but I alway need to wear inserts for high arches. Has anyone had success with insoles in Jim Green or similar boots?

They seem to be roomy enough for arch inserts.

I have some foot issues, Morton’s Neuroma being one and some nerve damage in the top of my foot being another, spiral fractures (that have healed but have their own issues). I quit buying shoes that are not comfortable out of the box. Why? Because they never became comfortable.

I like the look of JG Ranger boots. The weight of the boot is also very nice.
The width of the boot is great.
I tried a couple of pairs on at Safari Outdoors. The boots had a raised area down the middle of the foot bed. The sales person advised that it will go away when broke in.
Not giving up on the boot I ordered a pair, I returned them due to the same issue.
I then bought a pair of Courtney’s at SCI show last year.
Heavier boot for sure.
Comfortable out of the box.
Wore them on a trip in Spain, up and down steps, dirt paths, cobblestone streets. No issues.
Toe box and fit are crucial for diabetics, too.

I wear flip flop and Keen sandals year round, I’d almost be tempted to hunt in keen sandals….i love them and so do my feet.

After watching a few videos though, I’m leaning toward the standard version…..

I’m a little concerned about sizing, in danner I wear 12ee, in Keene sandals 13 and olukai flip flops a 14…
Sizing is maddening! I wear an 11 in Danner, 12 in Salomon, and 13 in Lowa! I have to try first or have a no questions return. At least my feet are the same size--have a friend whose feet are a full size different.

I have inserts in my JG rangers, the OEM inserts are pretty much junk, I didn’t go fancy
Just bought some Dr scholls, after researching custom sheep feet liners and figured $250 for them wasn’t my needs

I’ve always used the powersteps. Had a few extra dollars in my HSA so bought the sheepfeet on show discount at DSC. Had them about a week and really like them so far. Moving them from one pair of shoes to another is a pain.

Tried the rangers on at SCI. I have a D width and high arches. The standard toe box is way to wide for me, my forefoot had room to slide around the toe box, a sure fire way to blisters for me. The shoe tech showed me how to order a pair with their D width last. Just haven't decided yet as custom boots don't have the same return policy.

I have bought and tried to wear three pairs of Courtney’s to no avail. I bought a pair oh Jim Green boots and nirvana!!!!
1. lighter than Courtney
2. Great arch support versus need for a support with Courtbey
3. No blisters on pinky toe versus Courtney
4. Side by side you can’t tell the difference between the two
4. Half the price of courtney
5. Just as quiet as Courtney
Without question I have become a huge fan of Jim Green Boots!!!
I am hearing great reports on them. The Zim PH's have been given a pair of their choice for free to try out. They love them!

I have. While mine fit well right out of the box, I thought having inserts for doing 10-20 miles per day for buff or elephant hunt might be better with the inserts. I love my JG so much better than my previously tried Courtney’s

Ordered a pair of the original ranger, not barefoot. Should arrive this week. Hopefully sizing will be right

Dammitman!

The new boots arrived today, but as I was afraid, I did not get the right size… Right foot fits OK left foot definitely too small…. These are headed back in a new pair being ordered.

Did you ordered the standard US sizing you normally use? You think one should order one size larger?
Have you taken any other photos with your pair before you sent it back?
What was your first impression when you checked them out?

Thanks.

I did order my normal US size that I wear in boots which would be a 12ee to a 13.

Since these boots run wide, according to all reports, I split the difference and ordered a 12 1/2… the replacement that I ordered is a 13. I hope it will be large enough.

They seem like a nice product, very well made. That’s my initial impression but time will tell.

I’ll grab a few more pictures when I get home… Haven’t dropped them off yet.

@CBeck, do you like the green color? I was thinking of ordering either the brown or the fudge.

I do I think they’ll actually look good once they’re worn in… I had a pair of leather keen sandals that were almost the exact same color and loved them

I will add sitting here waiting for an appointment reading this thread again I went ahead and placed an order for the barefoot version as well. That way I can have them side-by-side to compare.

I tell myself I’ll send one of them back but knowing me, I’ll keep both lol

Please keep me posted on which one you like better. By looking at them, I seem to favor the Rangers vs. the Barefoot version. I like a bit more sole on the heel. Might help me look taller. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.
