Jim Green Boots Report

I love my JG Rangers! I mink oiled the heck out of them and changed the insole to a cushy athletic one. I can trek all day in them comfortably.
I grew up with the tradition of mink oiling boots each fall. If you do some research, you'll find most leather experts agree that it's not the best stuff to use on leather. I switched to Obenauf's years ago.

I like my Jim Greens but have relegated them to garden work. Way to wide for my feet. Wished they made them in a D width.

I have bought and tried to wear three pairs of Courtney’s to no avail. I bought a pair oh Jim Green boots and nirvana!!!!
1. lighter than Courtney
2. Great arch support versus need for a support with Courtbey
3. No blisters on pinky toe versus Courtney
4. Side by side you can’t tell the difference between the two
4. Half the price of courtney
5. Just as quiet as Courtney
Without question I have become a huge fan of Jim Green Boots!!!
Thought those who have not seen JG boots you might like pictures of mine

I just ordered a pair of Rangers and Roughed Out Vellie (on sale). They will be delivered to me in the US early next week. Fingers crossed on the sizing. I went with my normal US boot sizing... If anything, I learned in Mozambique hunting this past month, I can't walk as quiet in my Keens as everyone else in their Greens or Courtneys!

I wear a size 10 W in Keens and or Merrills with a very high instep.. how will the Green boot fit . tried the Courtney wide and they were tight over the instep

All I can tell you is I ordered my normal YS 12 and the JG fit perfectly with zero problems after a very hard first 7 mile mountain power walk unlike my Courtney’s that were just horrible. just me. I have never questioned the outstanding Courtney quality only the fit and wear

I like my rangers, but I think I’ll wear others for hunting. I feel like I’m falling forward due to the slight heel to toe height difference. During my normal stride the front slaps like I’m wearing flippers. Finally, it may be due to my supportive insoles, but I’m not getting ankle support.

I want to try them at DSC show this year. My Courtney’s look good but feel so heavy. I never had issue with arch support, but I did have bad pinky toe blisters until I got a boot stretcher with a toe stretcher insert.

I just got a pair of JG and am getting a toe hot spot. What stretcher with insert are you using?

Still breaking them in with probably 15hrs wear time so far. It’s only on my left foot too. Right boot fits great so hoping this works because I’d love to keep them.

I got this one but there are a lot of options if you search boot stretcher on Amazon

Looking at getting a pair of rangers but they don't offer a width option. I have feet like a hobbit and need a large / wide toe box! Those that have worn them would you say the standard width is about normal, narrow, or wide?
I also always need a wide in US made boots. Wear a EE. I wear size 9 1/2 or 10’s. Ordered a pair of JG in 10. Was a little big so I also ordered a 9 1/2. Both has plenty of room in tow box and are extremely comfortable.

I ordered a pair of African rangers for Christmas. I’ve worn them about every day since and the other reports were spot on. they took at least a few days to break in and the insole is crap. Tender small toe, etc. this goes away after breaking them in. I wear a 10.5 in Keens (which has been the best fitting boot for me) and the JGs fit me perfectly in 10.5. I replaced the insole with dr soles which helped but still not great. Toe box is more than enough for my wide foot. Still early for me and these boots but so far I’m mixed on them. I will be changing out the insole again and keep wearing them as I think they still need more steps to fully break them in.

I just received my first pair of Jim Green Boots! Their Ranger model in vegetable tanned walnut. I’ll need to wear them 10 or 20 miles to know for sure, but I already like the light weight and wide toe box as compared to my Courtney boots. No sore pinkie toe in these! More to come.

I ordered a pair at SCI with leather footbeds. I liked the fit, sole and, weight a lot better than the Courtneys. I’m excited to give them a go.

I really wanted to find a pair of their African Rangers that fit. I tried them on at the DSC Convention. Unfortunately, I had heel lift in the size 10s and the 9.5s were too small. It sucks when you have non-standard feet!

Maybe these might help with the heal lift problem.

I have a large bone spur on my left heal. Without these, I couldn’t wear any boot.

I got a pair of Rangers and Razorbacks, insoles were crap, got new ones and love them now, the Rangers are a little weak in ankle support on uneven ground, but the Razorbacks work great in that terrain, plan on using them in Mozambique later this year

I have some foot issues, Morton’s Neuroma being one and some nerve damage in the top of my foot being another, spiral fractures (that have healed but have their own issues). I quit buying shoes that are not comfortable out of the box. Why? Because they never became comfortable.

I like the look of JG Ranger boots. The weight of the boot is also very nice.
The width of the boot is great.
I tried a couple of pairs on at Safari Outdoors. The boots had a raised area down the middle of the foot bed. The sales person advised that it will go away when broke in.
Not giving up on the boot I ordered a pair, I returned them due to the same issue.
I then bought a pair of Courtney’s at SCI show last year.
Heavier boot for sure.
Comfortable out of the box.
Wore them on a trip in Spain, up and down steps, dirt paths, cobblestone streets. No issues.
