is this stock blank to "much" for old school 416 Rigby?

Going to the gunsmith this month My vision of old school with maybe to nice of a wood and modern update with the peep sight. Is this Turkish blank "to much" for that time? Thanks

A peep sight is also an old-school accessory. But, what is the cylinder at the end of the barrel? If it’s for a screw-on muzzle break or, heavens forbid, a suppressor, then the walnut would be wasted. Buy a McMillan composite stock and save the walnut for another project.

more is more, more is better! Looks great. Honestly, for tradition the biggest problem isn't the type of figure, its the honey finish that is popular with turkish and spanish walnut. If you have them dope up the stain with red alkanet root, you will get that anglo-germanic look that is traditional.

I think the barrel has just has not been cut to final length. Best guess from looking on my phone.

RR 314 is correct. just the left over from the integral barrel machining.

The best wood you can get is barely enough. I love the stuff!
Just for grins, the US army during WW II trashed figured wood that wasn't pure straight grain for the M-1 carbines, etc. since it didn't meet their specs for toughness. Probably burned it.

Your blank has a really great flow through the wrist--best of both worlds, strength and beauty! A wise man said, "we spend more time in the company of our rifles than hunting with them." Might as well have a "looker."

Can’t wait till I see this project completed. With that wood it will look spectacular. As far as staining the wood, I follow @Rookhawk’s advice and would prefer the darker hues.

I think that, finished, it will be dark enough not to look flashy and the grain is about right for a high end hunting rifle.

I just got my 375 back from the stocker. I furnished a nice, but dark, blank. Came out looking 'English style' which is appropriate for a 375 H&H... or a 416 Rigby.

It will make a nice looking rifle.

Adjustment. Once Matrix Gunsmithing gets his CNC back up and running, should be available.
Will keep you posted. Has both flattop or convex lid. The shapes are ellipsis with major, minor axis programmable as well as the depth.
