Does anyone know which round will give better velocities out of a 18" barrel with 250 grain bullets? It's hard finding velocity data for shorter barrels with these rounds.

Their velocity loss should essentially be the same with bullets that are the same weight, The .35 will have slightly better sectional density.

This is WAG, but I would figure that you would lose around 25-30 fps per inch of barrel lost. The larger the bore, the less the velocity lost per inch of barrel cut. YMMV

I have several .35 Whelens. Two of which are a 22 inch M700 and an 18.5 inch 7600 Carbine. With my favorite handload using 59.5 grains RL15 and 250 grain Nosler Partition I get 2540 FPS out of 22 inch and 2500 even out of 18.5 inch. So 40 FPS less with a 3.5 inch shorter barrel. The Whelen does very well in shorter barrels, I would assume the same of the 9.3x62.

Great info.. I bet that 2500 from a handgun is a “handful”. No pun intended. I’ve touched off a .375 JDJ and it’s no slouch.
