Is Blaser Trying To Price Themselves Out Of The American Market???

Something about suppressors, and multiple game shots. random thoughts.

Very often I have seen roe deer crossing or grazing on our local 200-meters shooting range, while the range was hot.
I have seen roe deer grazing in open fields, not overly reacting after one from group is taken by non suppressed rifle. In this scenario, I think suppresor is more for hunters protection of hearing rather then more effective hunt

But boars, they will react on slightest sound not to say something about shot, supressed or not.
Suppressor will help with noise, especially with sub sonic ammo, but it will have less energy, for sure.

I dont know a case, when repetitive shots could be taken at same group of boars during hunt from blind. There were cases of 2 or 3 boars shot, but with difference in hours from one being shot till next.

I am not sure, is there a difference in behavior of European boar or American feral hog?

Semiautomatic suppressed rifle will be better. There will not be a noise of manual recycling the bolt.
Those are some of my random thoughts.

Similar subject, but different topic:
Having said that, i remembered now a movie I watched recently.
Butchers Crossing with Nicholas Cage.
Cage is buffalo hunter somewhere in Colorado region, and found a herd of 100.000 heads in some canyon.
Wanted to make big money from bison hides.
This is first time that I saw in a movie, a "static type" of shooting at American bison. (Movie "Dances with Wolves", was dynamic hunt scene from horseback)
So, Basically, Nicholas cage gets within range of his rifle, and starts shooting. Bisons graze, and keep falling down. They dont move away. He just stops shooting, when there is too much for skinners to skin. I did not like the movie, not only for so much killing, but also for entire scenario.

I wonder was it like that in reality, then in the wild west?
Ken Burns film "The American Buffalo" is a harrowing watch, the global industry of bufallo harvesting for tongues, skins, meat and after most were dead bone harvesting for fertiliser. I think I watched it on Paramount.

Cheers Bob,

My thoughts where to cover the available game animals; .243 for Muntjac, Chinese Water deer, Roe and Sika hinds and the 7x57 for Red and Sika stags maybe wild boar on to bigger exotics.

However being in the UK there is a big shift to game dealers only taking game shot with non toxic. This is ruining wing shooting in my opinion and it is making full bore rifle cartridges an issue. From recent reading around 9last n ight) only Lapua Naturalis has the required muzzle energy 1729ft/lb at 90gr and the bullet looks like a baguette and is at the bottom end of stability with the twist rate of a .243

I will look at 25-06 as the bolt head will fit the standard bolt on the R93 and it seems a very capable round.

Thanks for the advice
@Eric Nelson
A 25-06 loaded with a 100gn Barnes TTSX @3,400 fps will comfortably take any of the game you mention. A 115gn tax is available if needed and you will get an easy 3,000 fps with that. The 243 is a non contestant in my book.

Suppressors are rarely used by hunters in the US. The permit process alone takes half a year, and the suppressors are themselves quite expensive. Secondly, for normal big game hunting, they are an unnecessary incumbrance to an otherwise perfectly balanced rifle. I hate them in that role. Where they do come into there own here is controlling animals such as feral hogs where a suppressor may allow the targeting of multiple animals - particularly at night with a thermal. They are particularly well suited in the minds of most here employed on an AR platform. I should also note sound abatement is not generally a consideration or concern.

The typical hunting rifle that is threaded in this country is threaded with a muzzle brake in mind and not a suppressor.

Home defense firearms are also often equipped with a suppressor. This is a Daniel Defense in 5.56.

But on a hunting rifle? I personally despise the things in that role almost as much as brake.

We hunt with suppressors as much as possible. I not worried about what looks good. Most of the hunting we do is out of a box so balance is not that big of an issue. Suppressors have come a long way in the US. The ones I have range from 765.00 to 1935.00, lots in-between. I'm not going to have my Blaser R8 Selous threaded to run a suppressor on them. The 7PRC that I had spun up is threaded so that I can run a suppressor.

E forms are going to help with people getting into suppressors. I have known more people get into them in the last two years than I ever before. When E form first started it was an average of 74 days for 9 of my suppressor. Right now I'm averaging 185 days. Still better than the year long wait just a few years ago.

I think you will see a lot more suppressors in the field in the next few years.
