Ahhh, ok good deal - thanks for the photo !Skull, I would say lower than a scope. But of course it depends on your face height , neck height and check weld. View attachment 659417

I should add on my current.416 I have a picatinny rail that the RMR is attached to. Just easier for me to take off and put a Trijicon scope on it. That’s the reason for the need to raise the comb for me anyway.I did, so bought a comb riser from Midway USA. It came with several different pads so I could get the correct fit.
Select the smallest dot available, a 1 MOA in the SRO.I like the looks of that SRO , and I’d say the 2.5 MOA would be good?
I shot some snapshots of a RMR, SRO, and 1" scope rings for a CZ 550.Does anyone find that the RMR/SRO on the AHR mount are taller than a “low mount” scope ?
I’ve got an RMR 1moa with AHR QD mount on my BRNO 602 and it’s a game changer!Ok thank you very much Mark! I like the shorter RMR and 1 MOA is much better !
Thank you ! Im on it !I’ve got an RMR 1moa with AHR QD mount on my BRNO 602 and it’s a game changer!
Thanks. Well demonstrated! I went with the lowest RMR and a 1" dot on your recommendation a few years ago and used it on buffalo last fall. It worked very well and yes lower mount helps keep your head lower and aids in a faster recover for next shot (if you keep the rifle mounted to your shoulder).Select the smallest dot available, a 1 MOA in the SRO.
Why? As one increases the intensity of the dot on a sunny day, the dot size grows.
Add to that any astigmatism one may have making the dot even larger and egg shaped, your dot blob may vary.

Height from base to top of Warne 1" scope ring is 45+mm

That is a very gracious offer and I thank you very much for that - after seeing Mark’s pictorial of the sizes I think I will lean towards the smaller RMR after all. Again, I appreciate the offer sir !Skull, if you’re not sure. I’ll send you my SRO 1 with 1 MOA to try out. Look up the Marks post on the pros and cons of the SRO1 vs the smaller RMRs
That is a super mount there. Virtually like looking thru the irons !I had a custom mount made for an Aimpoint Micro H1 on my ZKK602 in 450 Rigby.
Don't think you can go much lower.

If there´s a good mount available where you´re at you might want to look into an Aimpoint Acro. It has a closed emitter so it´s not as sensitive to dust etc as some other suggestions and it´s designed to be mounted on pistol slides (which are subject to very high acceleration) so the recoil of a 505 should not be a problem at all. I might be a little biased because it´s one of very few internationally known gun related Swedish companies but I don´t think anyone can honestly call Aimpoints bad.
I've been reading this with great interest and you post brings up an important question. The bikini style covers for most scopes and red dots might prevent the build up of dust, but can be a huge pain at showtime. Does anyone have any positive experience with bikini style covers? This brings up a good point. Traditional RMR and SRO with external light emitter must be occasionally cleaned out while logging miles on a hunt. Dust on the emitter will make the light scatter on the screen. Or not appear at all.
On one particular stalk on an elephant I thought I was going to get a shot. pulled my rifle up and there was no red dot. I was in a panic thinking my battery went dead at go time. Luckily I did not need to shoot quickly.
I removed it and went to irons the rest of that particular stalk. Then while on a break saw too much dust had built up. Blocking the light.
