Prince Phillip was a Landrover man an Queen Elizabeth was a mechanic. That's convenient.
There will never be another like her.
Why thank you so much, Spike.Couldn't put like and laugh smileys at same time...
I was not judging, just stating what I had heard, don’t even know if it was true or not so maybe I shouldn’t have said “ she was good with the trophy ban” that still doesn’t take away from my opinion she was a great queen for all of Britain. She was not allowed to get involved or to influence government policies...she could give her advice etc to the prime minister in their regular meetings....but thst is it....so don't go judging
Imagine being called in to provlde a replacement - I would have put Her Majesty and the Duke on the back of the Harry Selby and whisked them off forca spot of guineafowl shooting!@CBH Australia
And when in Africa if they had a problem the Queen couldn't handle with the Landy they could have dialed our resident Landy guru @Kevin Peacocke
Plrase write your memoirs. The UK is not my country, but it has been kind to me and I have come to feel part of it
Though I shared my own people’s distrust of Britain’s (and the US’s) meddling ways during UDI and the bush war in which I fought, I later came to swear allegiance to the Queen when I took a commission
She was a unique leader of a unique institution
We live in increasingly dangerous times and the UK has lost a lodestone in increasingly stormy seas
For those in the US that don’t quite get the hype
think of the Royal Family, not so much as individuals promoted above others, but as a living 1000 + year old Constitution of American Independence
The royals have a huge workload and when Harry ducked William and Kate had to take on a lot more. Now Charles has moved up it will get even heavier. I only hope that Harry will feel the weight of what he has done and at least stop the flow of negative crap he and her were putting out. I think it is too late for them to ever come back, that would require a complete change of heart from Meghan and I don't think she has one.I think old Charlie Boy will do just fine
I have to keep reminding myself that he is just the figurehead and, for all the pomp and glamour, ultimately a servant of the British people
there is a huge (and sophisticated) unseen mechanism directing and supporting him
it will be interesting to see how the Sussex’s behave when they return to California
The British people have welcomed them yet again
If she crawls home to write yet more spiteful crap in order to stay in the spotlight, it might not be so well received
She might not have the wit to recognise it, but by being welcomed she has been put in an invidious position

Just an observation that I think is interesting.
1.) The Rhodesians had the highest voluntary service rate in WWII, dying for the Monarchy to a degree no other part of the realm did.
2.) The Queen completely betrayed the Rhodesians, cutting off their supplies, and ultimately provided comfort and support for insurrectionists that led to the end of Rhodesia.
3.) In spite of all this history, the Zimbabweans still love the Queen and are more loyal to her than most British subjects today.
I’m not sure this says anything about the monarchy, but it certainly shows the character of the Rhodesian. Their loyalty has been tested many times and even when no longer compulsory, they still show loyalty to the crown.
You do not understand the role of the royals in modern Britain. The betrayal of the Rhodesians was not the decision of the Queen.
You're right, I'm ignorant to the nuances and one could argue that Parliament betrayed Rhodesia and the Queen was powerless to intervene in a Constitutional Monarchy.
My response back would be: Fine, but she gets to decide who to knight and she chose to knight Robert Mugabe. Sir Ian and Sir Robert on equal footing with the crown? Hmm.
Valid point. Knighting a terrorist is somewhat hard to explain.
