In memoriam - The Queen

It was revoked later.

After the hurtful land reform programme and the consequential bust up it caused Mugabe pulled Zimbabwe out of the Commonwealth too. I think everybody, and even most black Zimbabweans realised that even if there was justification for land transfer the means were spiteful and unnecessarily violent. Now Zimbabwe wants to re-join the Commonwealth, but the question should be asked whether it's leaders are ready to now espouse the values that Mugabe would not.

It certainly seems Zimbabwe has been much quieter since Uncle Bob was sent packing. What's the word there now?

It is a bit of a paradox, government infrastructure like roads, water and power are in bad shape, but there is house building everywhere and commerce is strong. If they could get the people to pay taxes and put it back into the country it might turn into something special. At least it is peaceful.

The reason that Biden was stuck at the back of Westminster Abbey is because he was late for the service (and then spent his time pulling his tongue):

When I was watching I firstly wondered if he would make it up the steps outside....but I did wonder when they got inside and he started talking to one of the people just inside the door, they where then asked to go stand to one side....and others went ahead...then they were taken to their seats...that info now let me know the reason....unbelievable....full motorcade and everyone else as said on busses....nobody else has anywhere near the motorcade he had....have seen couple of videos of it

Give him break Mike, he's a very important and confused man.

Hard to have any empathy with Mugabe's land grab when the 5th Brigade is on your farm demanding you to leave within 24 hours

My Grandmother remarried a farmer - that farm I grew up on - and that farm was 3rd generation

Apparently we (RLI) very nearly continued the fight (in 1979 - 80 ) when it was realised that an election stitch up was landing us with that creature

Joshua Nkomo's people felt the full effect of the 5th Brigade after the bush war - they were fearsome against unarmed women and children

But I don't remember them being quite so courageous against RLI

That said - I’m now looking to return home if there is a place for me

I had a cook in Mozambique that was a member of the RLI and he was a fascinating man. Learned a ton about the unit and his country that he still called Rhodesia. Sorry off thread a bit.

If your cook was a black guy, I suspect he was RAR - A superb infantry unit

RLI was all white guys - mostly 17 and 18 year olds from home and abroad. Quite a few from UK and former US Vietnam vets

My Sergeant was about 21 and he was god

Embarrassing is an understatement! The POS is just like his ex-boss. Detests Brits, removes Churchill bust from WH, gives the Queen some cheesy CD of his speeches. Two peas in a pod- both PsOS.

He was as white as I am and that’s pretty white

At the risk of getting boring

RAR (The Rhodesian African Rifles) gave RLI its moto

They apparently said of its members - ''they have the faces of children but they fight like lions''

Pugnamus amo leo

In the light of challenges of old age and strange times I only wish I could hold true to that moto - I gave my word to ER - she gave her word to the people of the UK

Believing is something greater than one's self - can there be anything more empowering and meaningful?

Not surprised ...

This was a truly great lady. To have kept her promise all those years never faltering right up to her last day on this earth Is nothing short of amazing. Furthermore, her example is worthy of all our admiration. I was particularly taken with her COVID address reminding her people that they would be with family again, with their friends again, they would be together again….so very well put…..so simply put yet reassuring.
Over the last several days hundreds of thousands of people paid their respects and lined the streets to bid her farewell. I had the TV on when I could and in my own way paid my respects to someone that I very much admired. May we all keep our promises to others as she did.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
