I'm Running for the NRA Board of Directors

Good luck!
Personally the NRA lost me years ago. My money and efforts go to GOA. I’m a Benefactor Life Member but haven’t participated for years. They lost me in 1986 then after a thirty plus year hiatus I gave them another chance. Silly me. I should have learned the first time. A leopard can’t change it’s spots.

At one point, I too was a long time member of the NRA. Handgun instructor, etc. Then the selling of life insurance and other tasteless things started. I stopped all of my affiliation with the NRA.
Good luck! I wish you the very best of luck!!

I got a confirmation letter this morning that I had qualified to be on the ballot by petition. I was already placed on the ballot by the Nominating Committee but wanted to make it by petition as well. To me, it represents the support of your average member and not just the insiders.

Former NRA President Marion Hammer, the ultimate insider, told me the Nominating Committee probably put me on the ballot to shut me up. I have been (clears throat) somewhat of a critic of the current Board, Wayne LaPierre, the grifting, and their outside attorney which donates money to Kamala.

To friends here who signed my petition, I offer up my hearty thanks. To any one who is a voting member, I would appreciate your vote in the 2025 NRA Board election. Look for your ballot in the February issue of the magazines.

I’m also a Benefactor but now just an observer until there is serious change like reducing the number of board member to 12 or less.

While I think Judge Cohen in the New York case could possibly do that, I sincerely doubt he will go that far. Neither the proposed Final Judgment from the NY AG nor the NRA propose to decrease the size of the board in the judgment. The NRA's proposal totally ignores it while the NY AG says that as soon as practically possible a referendum on a bylaw change that will reduce the size of the Board and impose term limits be held.

I also doubt that the number of Board members will ever go as low as 12. I think more likely is something like 20-25. How I see it happening is a reduced number of people elected each year over a three year period so by the end of three years the size is down to the level set in the bylaw change.

I fully agree that the size of the board needs to be reduced. I have always been in favor of something like what many colleges and universities have. That is, a governing Board of Directors of a small number - 12 in your case, a few more probably in my realistic alternative - and a Board of Visitors or Advisors which would serve to raise money, do PR, and reward big donors. Most of the celebrities on the NRA's board in the past would have been better placed on a Board of Visitors.

The last thing I will say is not voting when eligible will just play into the hands of those who don't want any change.

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
